What's happening in this here blog
by Liza Sabater
The number one reason for the redesign was to make the blog more readable. The old blog was just too messy ... kind of like my apartment when I live in the denial that through that door will come a team of cleaning ninjas who'll do every single housekeeping chore I so loathe and detest.
The chaos, so far has been contained.
My biggest readers are not human. They are the bots coming from Google, Yahoo! and other search engines as well as the news/feed readers that hit my RDF files by the thousands on a daily basis. It's sad to look at the hits on my INDEX.HTML page. Just a few dozen. On Sunday, though --and I hope this was not the work of evil spammers or something-- I got over 11k hits. I can't think of a reason for that to happen --was there that many people looking for information on the Chinese New Year?
I really have to get better stats ---or just a new web host because the stats I have at the moment really suck. I redesigned this site and even though their host is Earthlink (and thusly not that good a web host) their stats rock. I've seen some interesting stat pages created with PhP on some blogs but, again, that might mean I'd have to switch hosts. I am not plunking down more money on a monthly basis for these bozos to add it to my account. Everytime I want some stardard technology added to the account they want me to plunk down $25, $50. They are bozos, but nice bozos nonetheless. Their customer service is really good.
Who is your web host? Is anybody using GoDaddy. I've used their domain registry and it's pretty sweet. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to use them for web hosting. Their prices are good.
Anyway...
At the moment, I feel like I am ready to finish this first stage of the design.
- Redo PRINT.CSS
- Buttons to my other blogs
- Buttons to my feeds (RDF, XML, Atom)
- Test for accessibility
The rest will be icing on the cake. My blogs, but this one in particular, are my lab, studio, workshop. So changes will be happening all the time --until, of course, I get paid for the next project. I mean, I have to write, if not, I'll go crazy. The blogs also have to work as my gateway to paid work. We need me to start earning some of that really soon.
