What's on my rambling mind
by Liza Sabater
I need a desk job so I can concentrate on my writing. Seriously.
From blogging to essays, short stories to a novel, there is just too much in my head at the moment and have very little time to write it all down. Not that it helps that I am at moment blogging this. But I can't write anything more than fluff while making lunch and attending to homeschooling activities.
Sigh.
So what's on my mind these days?
- Choice is a burden.
- People against euthanasia are not moral. They just fear death.
- "Lost in Translation", "Y tu mamá también", "Before night falls", "Shrek2" and "Harry Potter 3" are all really good movies.
- Julian Schnabel rubs me the wrong way but, by grock, the man is good at what he does.
- The older I get, the less respect I have for Jeff Koons.
- Schnabel's work is apotheosic, sometimes beautiful. Robert Ryman's, on the other hand, is sublime. Chalk one up for Kant.
- Can you have patria without patriotism?
- How many "boomerang" Americans are living in the US right now? Has that had an impact on the culture?
- What is it about fireworks? Would people in this country still ooh and ahh after blasting smiley faces if carnaval was part of the culture?
- Don't you think of Nazis when hearing the English word "motherland"? It's definitely not the same in Spanish.
- What is it about Argentinian futbol players?
- While I am at it, David Beckham is HOT. I don't know if I'd fuck him but I'd certainly like to watch.
- Three accents that make me HOT : Argentinian, Castillian and Carioca. Mee-OW!
- After reading "She comes First", I am convinced people need to learn how to masturbate.
- How would you teach masturbation?
- Software artists need an ArtForge. Now.
- Creatives need an online community similar to DailyKos; especially for the fundraising.
- I need headshots. Badly. Like, yesterday.
- When giving something away for free there is always a payback. Always.
- Companies holding patents and copyrights and trademarks cannot have transparency. How would you have transparency if your business model is founded on a legally guarded secret?
- What is transparency?
- Compulsory education has to end. Schooling sucks but so does homeschooling.
- New York is really NOT a kid friendly town ... unless it means having your kids cloistered in school and classes 10 hours a day.
- You do need a lot of money --or to live really frugally-- to homeschool in New York City.
- How can I go back to work and homeschool?
- I don't really want to go back to work. I want to go back to a career.
- Although noble to 'save' Asian babies, especially girls, through adoption; am I the only one disturbed at the fact that none of the adopting parents considered African American babies?
- Am I wrong for feeling this way?
- Forty years is not a long enough time to erase racism from a culture.
- If racism is a wound, can you really erase it?
- I don't understand why people are so mad at Bill Cosby. There is race and then there is class. They are not one and the same.
- The US' aversion to Marx has perpetuated the myth that this country's problems are only due to the culture of slavery. What about Empire? What about class?
So there. That's what has been on my mind lately. I'll treat this as my to-write list ... so it does not count as procrastination.
Heh.

Nichelle,
About #15 ...
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA snort
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
snif snif ... sigh
But seriouly, two thoughts :
1. Kegels. They rule.
2. Deep yogic breathing. Tantra rules.
About class ...
I read sometime ago about a psychotherapist who helps upwardly mobile black folks deal with the guilt of class issues within their own families. It's not that it is exclusive to black but given that, as Chris Rock has pointed it out, cultural slavery was abolished in the 60's, you have a lot of black families coming undone due to social mobility. So this woman helps people cope with the contradictions and confrontations that come from not just moving out of poverty --and possibly out of a family circle-- but doing so as a black person.
Why I've been thinking about this? Oh, Bill Cosby. Need to address his recent antics. I agree with some of his ideas but have to criticize not only his delivery but some of his philantropic and political actions as well.
Sex and politics. It all comes down to that, doesn't it :)

Well, there's no patria without patriotism.
I prefer fratrias.
By the way, any notion of culture involves some kind of racism, don't you think?
