Protest with Sex and Fashion, Norway style
by Liza Sabater
From Norway, come two interesting ways of protest. Earlier this month there was a concert benefit for Regnskogsfondet : Rainforest Foundation Norway, the Cumshots and "Fuck for Forest" staged an "improtptu" sexfest after couple got on stage and had sex on stage. What funny is that a week later many [have been] arrested for outdoor sex in Norway; fitting perfectly with the Harlequin Romance poll that shows that, when it comes to coming in public, Norway comes first.
There is nothing like some hot, steaming knooky to bring attention to a political cause.
When Norway was occupied by Germany in 1940, Norwegian women began to
Knit RED caps for children as a way of letting everyone know that they did
not like what was happening in their country. The result was that whenever
Norwegians left their homes - to go to the store, to work, etc, they could
see that the majority opposed what was going on in their country. Many of us strongly oppose what this administration has done and we need
To recognize each other very easily so we can see that thinking people are
still the majority. Please wear RED every Friday between now and Election Day. Wear a little
Or a lot-- just be sure that when you leave your house to go about your day
to work, to school, to the store, to the gas station, wherever you go in
your daily routine -- that everyone who sees you will see that you are
wearing red because you don't approve of our current administration's
policies. This email has been forwarded around the country by many who
receive it - feel free to send it on to your friends and co-workers.
This would put a whole new spin on the Red Hat Ladies Club!!
So what would be the blogging equivalent of these acts of protest? Have a blogfucking orgy? Blog something red every Friday until the elections?
Here is a shout out to all my Norse readers! There is nothing like sex and fashion to get my attention --and all those hits I've been getting from them Viking countries ;-)

Liked the girl. Wanna protest, too. What's the cause, anyway?

He's tasty too.
They're protesting deforestation of tropical forests around the world. Definitely a QUENTE way of doing it; what with his plowing her *foresta* to save the forest.
What is hysterical is the aftermath of the story, with all the cases in Norway of people busted for having sex in public. It's like they unleashed a sex demon up there.
Greatest contributions to the world from the cold countries : Swedish porno, Danish slutty princesses and now Norse *transando* in public.
Gotta get my protest going.

Liza, I tend to think that everything in this story is kind of hysterical. Maybe I just can't get it, but there's something strange when you use sex as a way of protesting against deforestation.
It just sounds too weird to be effective. I don't think anyone in Europe needs to be reminded of that problem, and that's the main appeal in those things, gather attention. They already know what deforestation is. So I think it's not about forests (other than the girl's), but about norwegian costumes and the way it deals with sex.
If we think it's really about ecology, there are so many ways to do it the right way. Lots of europeans NGO's have been doing a great work against deforestations (there's a lot of american ones, too, but I wouldn't say they're exactly trustworthy). Not by taking off their clothes or getting a good one on stage, but simply thinking and working.
In Brazil, more especifically in Rio, we have another -- and, IMHO, equally ineffective -- way of protesting. We dress in white and go to the streets. Drug dealers are killing middle class people? We dress in white and go to the streets. A new scandal involving corrupt politicians ? We dress in white and... You got the idea. It realy doesn't change things. And I don't think that "happenning" (which strangely looks a lot like the sixties to me) will change, either.
Really liked the girl, anyway.
