Closed captioning stupidity ... and a Benicio del Toro moment
by Liza Sabater
Language Log: Speaking Puerto Rican
A reporter caught Benicio del Toro outside the theatre, and asked him whether his family would be watching. Yes, he said, they were at home in Puerto Rico. She asked whether he would like to say anything to them, and he nodded and said something in Spanish. The closed captioning read: "[speaks Puerto Rican]".

[wiping drool off my chin]
I got off the Puerto Rican men addiction many years ago but, ¡Ay Bendito!, this man definitely will make me fall off the wagon. If I ever meet him, I take no responsibility for my actions. None. Enchule crónico. That's what I have.
