Want to know what attributes all social software must have? Groups and conversations

Many-to-Many: The Seven Two Pieces Social Software Must Have
These are comments I tried to post at the post but, for some reason could not:
Clay,
Awesome article. I found very interesting your use of wikis as the measure for your theory. Then I thought, hmmmmm, most human activity (even 'creative' activity) is archives as anonymous; meaning, the participants may know who is involved but that's ephemeral. At the end of the process, not one person necessarily has authorship or attribution. Gardening is a great metaphor but so could be anything from building a house to baking bread. The actual workers (not the brand) are almost always anonymous.
On another note, Matthew said:
Personal profiles accomplish two very important aspects in the development of community. 1) Members initial interaction within the community starts first with themselves. Who doesn’t like to talk about themselves?
Actually, I don't --and I am considered a social butterfly by most standards (not just geek ones).
I dislike personal profiles. I dislike the emptiness of that box because I, for one, don't look at my profile as part of my persona. I look at it as text that should facilitate my existence in the network's archives.
I wish this was taken into account in most social software. I want to be able to find other people who share my attributes. I'd rather there were pre-set attributes from whence to choose and then an added text box for my own poietic riffing as opposed to the vast whiteness of the profile canvas most social software give me. I just never really know what to say. Writing a profile although being a personal and poetic act should, at least in the context of community site, be standardized so that affinity lines are traced more easily.
That said, great stuff to chew from.
Thanks!
