Don Francisco, Kerry, Bush

Mention Sabago Gigante to the average person and they'll probably be able to tell you that you're talking about a "Gigantic Saturday". Mention Sabado Gigante to Raza from my hometown and they'll tell you about Don Francisco, El Chacal, La Cuatro, Javier Romero, and even La Flaca, before she made it big on her own. Watching Sabado Gigante was something you just did. It's huge in the Latino Community - almost like watching The Price Is Right, back in the day.

This Saturday Don Francisco, the show's host, will have interviews with both presidential candidates, Senator Kerry and President Bush. That's only 3 days before the election. Ave Maria Purisima! What does this mean? Does this mean the politicos really do need the Latino vote? Are they fighting for Florida, where the show is based out of? Sepa.

Sabado Gigante has meant so much to so many people. It's more of an old school variety show than a game show. Don Francisco is the main attraction. His sense of humor, his wit, his knowledge of just about anything, and his comforting gordito look have kept people watching the show for as long as I can remember. Every now and then the show also takes on compelling stories. This time, he's taking on the candidates.

If we were wondering whether or not these candidates were still courting Latinos, I think we've got our answer. I'm not sure what this will mean for the election, but I can tell you, no amount of advertising will reach as many Latinos as will these interviews by Don Francisco. I don't have the numbers, but I would put my subscription to Lowrider Magazine on it, if I had one. Watch the show, check it out. Aver que dicen.
