On the nature of guest starring

Does it ever strike you as weird when you're watching a movie, and certain members of the cast are credited as "guest stars"? This may make sense on some long-running TV show with a core cast - I always think of "Hawaii 5-0" - but a movie?
Happened to us again the other day at the Angelika: we took in "Infernal Affairs," and were perplexed to notice that maybe two, three of its cast were introduced this way.
Anyway, I guess I'm guest starring here for a little bit. (Haven't seen Danno yet.) Thanks for having me, Liza.
