Countdown to the Recount : Voter Suppression
by Liza Sabater
The flurry of posts I have about election protection was prompted by posts I have seen all over the blogosphere like "Afro-Netizen: Secret Document Suggests GOP Preparing to Challenge Black Vote in Florida". Thanks to Mithu, from Canada (?!?), for reminding me to make mention of the actual reports.
Mithu wrote about Greg Palast's investigative article for Democracy Now!, Secret Document Suggests GOP Preparing to Challenge Black Vote in Florida, which also was reported through the BBC show, Newsnight:
Please take a moment to check out this BBC report and help to publicize it:

A report leading the BBC Newsnight newscast about how African Americans are being targeted by Republicans in Florida 2004. The journalist who did the report discussed on Democracy Now! that the RNC threatened the BBC if they aired the report and that the RNC would restrict future access to Republican guests.
Note: this is the same reporter who broke the story about voter suppression of the African American vote after the 2000 election fiasco in Florida - a story that the American media passingly picked up only several months later and was also covered in F9/11 in a big way. (i.e. Florida republican election officials knowingly put African Americans on the do-not-vote list because of non-existent criminal records).

This is the reason why I believe there will be a recount. The GOP has been focused these past few weeks on supressing the vote on all possible demographic "swinger" quarters, from black neighborhoods in Florida, Ohio and Philadelphia, 18 year-olds coming out to vote for the first time, double-dipping snow birds and mentally incompetent senior citizens. It's exhausting just trying to keep up with all their shenanigans. That's why Election Protection, Move On, ACLU and countless other organizations have been working hard at not just get out the vote, but to protect it from annullment. "No more chads" is the battle-cry for this coming Tuesday.
Thanks Mithu, once again, for the reminder.
