Post-Election Notes From The Blogosphere : Oliver Willis
by Liza Sabater
Don't Be Fooled | Oliver Willis
The conventional wisdom keeps talking about Bush reaching out to Democrats, and I'm sure he will make some platitudes about it in his victory speech, but don't be fooled. Bush actually won this election, unlike last time, and he's got to pay back his hate-filled evangelical base, along with the corporate backers. America is in for a reaming from George Bush, and he doesn't need Democrats to help him do that.
Senator Kerry said what he did because they were the "right" things to say, and the backlash would have been destructive had he said otherwise. But we should simply nod respectfully to those passages about "healing" in his speech.
No compromise. Don't stand down.
What I like about Oliver is his unwillingness to back down. He understands what the party-uppers need to do to keep face, but as a one of the troops, he really does not feel the need to play nice. He's an intelligent guy and his fire works with his intellect, but in the hands of lesser intellects ...
The one problem I have about his comments is that, unfortunately, this is not about Bush anymore. This is about 51% of the population who are more than happy to support and ennable their leader.
This is about us, the 49% minority.
