The downside of social networking? F***ed up baby names
by Liza Sabater

Yahoo! News - Yahoo! It's a Boy!

Transylvanians name their kid Yahoo! in reverence to the search engine that brought them together? And it's not just Yahoo! but Yahoo! Dragoman.

Now I understand the concept of a Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs. Granted, it sounds like something out of a Monty Python skit, but to call your kid Yahoo! is just ... wrong. What's next? Friendster Smith? Twiki Rodriguez? Orkut Buyukkokten? Oh, right. That last one is a real name. Oh well. It's just ... wrong.

Yahoo! It's a Boy! Thu Jan 13, 7:59 AM ET BUCHAREST (Reuters) - A Romanian couple named their son Yahoo as a sign of gratitude for meeting over the Internet, a Bucharest newspaper said Thursday.

Daily Libertatea said Cornelia and Nonu Dragoman, both from Transylvania, met and decided they were meant for each other following a three-month relationship over the net.

They married and had a baby this Christmas, whom they decided to name after one of the worldwide web's most popular portals. "We named him Lucian Yahoo after my father and the net, the main beacon of my life," Cornelia Dragoman was quoted as saying.

You can tell I'm immersed in technical work these days. My brain's capacity for political and philosophical discourse is close to zero.
