So what did the Democrats have to offer after the State of the Union Address? Crap!
by Liza Sabater

Thanks to Micah Sifry and all the people of Personal Democracy Forum, snarkiness and pearls of wisdom were swined. It was fun. It was awesome. Backchanneling is the new water-cooler gossip MUST.

Here is our slightly edited assessment of what the Democrats had to offer (I cut out the comings and goings of people but left all mispellings in, for effect). :

------------------------

[22:10] DavidD> will pelosi and reid finally come out against dean explicitly?

[22:10] liza> who is that democrat thingy talking?

[22:10] Wizlevard> society, it should not be re-defined by activist judges. For the good

[22:10] BradT> Reid the new leader

[22:10] Wizlevard> of families, children, and society, I support a constitutional

[22:10] liza> eek!

[22:11] Wizlevard> amendment to protect the institution of marriage.

[22:11] respectfulopposition> Actually, it's a common fact that Fundamentalists (of any type) tend to propogate the species more, in the last 30 years (since the advent of easy birth control, feminism, Roe. V. Wade, and the embrace of gay community) there are less and less democrats.....ZPG of the 70s becomes their electoral albatross

[22:11] liza> is this the anti-abortion guy?

[22:11] DavidD> dems always start with this structure -- personal story first, place called hope, yada yada

[22:11] godsdog> down at the Nugget in Searchlight, we know the children

[22:12] godsdog> but respectful, that has nothing to do with the quantitative statement that there are "proportionately less dems" than 2 generations ago

[22:12] liza> nononononononononononono

[22:12] Wizlevard> Wonkette's funny.

[22:12] Wizlevard> She can't spell "gristle" though

[22:12] liza> he is fucking rehashing all of what bush said!

[22:12] Wizlevard> The dem response is on ABC

[22:12] liza> and CNN

[22:12] ross> ah good, I'm tuning in just in time

[22:12] Wizlevard> who is that bloke?

[22:13] liza> this speech has no contrast to what Bush just spoke

[22:13] liza> nor does he

[22:13] liza> this Reid guy

[22:13] DavidD> pelosi won't be that much better.

[22:13] liza> they needed to get a woman or a black person

[22:13] liza> a contrast

[22:13] respectfulopposition> yes....Red states have a higher percentage of teen births...blue states have a higher percentage of teen abortions (or even wiser, use birth control) now it is two generations later....there are less registered democrats based as a percentage of the electorage (also, more minority success since Civil Rights Act, many well-to-do minorities now in Repug camp)

[22:13] liza> nonononononononononono

[22:14] liza> he just lost the Asian vote

[22:14] BradT> Boxer was clever enough to get bloggers to quickly fight Gonzoles. Wish the dems had done this here. Reid's arguments aren't as pointed as they could be.

[22:14] DavidD> bloggers will rip him apart

[22:14] godsdog> Reid is the symbol of the Democrats' impotency

[22:14] liza> ABSOLUTELY!

[22:14] DavidD> him being reid

[22:14] liza> this speech sucks!

[22:14] liza> OMFG

[22:14] respectfulopposition> you're right....just like the bloggers had so much power over the Rice vote...OOOPS!!!

[22:14] Wizlevard> "Che gelida manina..." I love this bit...

[22:14] liza> groundhog day!

[22:14] DavidD> bill murray rocks

[22:15] liza> and he talks about the movie

[22:15] liza> with bill murray

[22:15] liza> totally lost the 18-45 demographic there

[22:15] BradT> Boxer used sharper arguments than she'd have come up with just by herself. Reid could have done the same.

[22:15] RbldFntsy> groundhog day....WTF

[22:15] respectfulopposition> Kinda funny...Repugs are going to portray dems as conservatives (not wanting change) in the SS fight....this is hysterical

[22:15] liza> it's a lovely day in te neighbohood

[22:16] liza> would you be mine

[22:16] liza> would you be mine

[22:16] godsdog> yeah, he should have used a Leonardo Dicaprio reference.... o p.diddy

[22:16] Dupin> zing!

[22:16] liza> get him a fucking sweater

[22:16] DavidD> gambling analogy works from a guy from nebada

[22:16] xian> the response is putting me to sleep

[22:16] respectfulopposition> Boxer will eventually be brought to hell by her inlaws

[22:16] respectfulopposition> hell = heel

[22:16] xian> i want to be just like you harry reid

[22:16] xian> when i grow up

[22:16] Wizlevard> O soave fanciulla...

[22:17] liza> Mr Rogers was hipper than this guy

[22:17] ross> god card

[22:17] Wizlevard> pure escapist frivolous loveliness

[22:17] liza> blue shirt

[22:17] BradT> nope, not an open road, just the road to Providence

[22:17] liza> RED TIE!

[22:17] Dupin> marge necklace

[22:17] liza> a fucking red tie!

[22:17] DavidD> PERMA SMILE

[22:18] bly> thr road's not bad -- it's 95

[22:18] liza> botox?

[22:18] Wizlevard> Anyone care to lay odds on when the first airstrike will hit Tehran?

[22:18] liza> safety

[22:18] liza> national security

[22:18] respectfulopposition> 15 minutes ago

[22:18] liza> she had a really bad brow lift

[22:18] Micah> hello again

[22:18] liza> their up to her hairline

[22:18] Wizlevard> HAR

[22:18] DavidD> they should be standing, not sitting... no stature on TV

[22:19] xian> [snopes]well at least mr. rogers was a sniper in 'nam [/snopes]

[22:19] bly> mush

[22:19] ross> its the fireside effect while rome is burning

[22:19] liza> eek!

[22:19] Tinewen> She is having a tough time reading the teleprompter

[22:19] Micah> it's worse if they stand too

[22:19] liza> look atht height of those brows

[22:19] liza> it's distracting!

[22:19] DavidD> even with those big eyes

[22:20] Micah> botox

[22:20] xian> yeah they've been lifted a tad, i'd say

[22:20] liza> A TAD!

[22:20] Micah> blink

[22:20] liza> blink damn it blink

[22:20] xian> these people really make bush seem slick

[22:20] DavidD> they barely blink

[22:20] liza> EXACTLY!

[22:20] Wizlevard> Tee hee - 1st hit on a GIS for "Purple finger": http://cam.saturngirl.net/camshots/purple-finger.jpg

[22:20] Micah> it's hard to speak looking straight intoa camera

[22:20] liza> porno?

[22:20] lisa_williams> Bush always reminds me of the guy in Being There

[22:21] xian> it is

[22:21] xian> i suck on tv

[22:21] Tinewen> She can't even close her eyes... that's how much they were lifted

[22:21] ross> transfer responsibility, economic development and regional diplomacy isn't enough of a differentiated plan

[22:21] lisa_williams> gis?

[22:21] Dupin> why doesn't she yell? who's still on the fence that can be convinced with this slow style?

[22:21] liza> i wonder if she sleeps with her eyes open

[22:21] xian> i think her inner eyelids blink so rapidly you can't see it

[22:21] lisa_williams> hahah

[22:21] xian> yeeeeeeagh

[22:21] liza> ooh eyebrows went down

[22:22] ross> like it or not, she is one of the better spokespeople for this slot

[22:22] liza> OBAMA

[22:22] xian> i like her

[22:22] Dupin> should've used obama or durbin

[22:22] xian> but this slot is a nightmare

[22:22] Tinewen> No its not, not when you have the practice she does. Hllywood gets naked in front on them and they still speak their lines without missing a beat.

[22:22] exiledsurfer> shes prolly had so many facelifts that she has a gaotee... but she shaved for today :)

[22:22] xian> they should use penn & teller

[22:22] halleys> heyo

[22:22] Dupin> haha agreed

[22:22] liza> HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

[22:22] halleys> anyone see Wonkette and Andrew Sullivan on CNN?

[22:22] liza> nope

[22:22] xian> or al franken

[22:22] Dupin> card tricks will surely lead us to progressive politics!

[22:23] xian> somebody moderately engaging

[22:23] lisa_williams> It's like the great story Oliver Sacks tells about aphasics watching Ronald Reagan give a speech.

[22:23] liza> geez, get sean penn in there

[22:23] Wizlevard> she doesn't have inner eyelids - she has a nictitating membrane

[22:23] lisa_williams> They can't understand a word he's saying, but they feel sure he's lying, and they think he's funny as hell, so they're all laughing.

[22:23] ross> uh, there is pretty good reason to believe he might be lying

[22:24] lisa_williams> I know, but how would the aphasics know?

[22:24] Dupin> say something about iran!

[22:24] liza> GI BILL OF RIGHTS

[22:24] liza> 100 minutes into the speech

[22:24] Wizlevard> All I said was "nictitating membrane" and I got booted

[22:24] liza> AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!

[22:24] Wizlevard> poop

[22:24] exiledsurfer> gnight, all, exiledsurfer signing out at 530 am in turkey :)

[22:24] Dupin> bush brought out parents, they should've brought out a set too

[22:24] lisa_williams> Liza, if you got Sean Penn in there there'd be enough eyelid for everybod.

[22:24] lisa_williams> y

[22:25] liza> HA!

[22:25] DavidD> there's you're line Micah

[22:25] lisa_williams> bye surfer

[22:25] liza> i was just going to say that

[22:25] exiledsurfer> keep up the hope and the outrage, people :)

[22:25] ross> I wonder what would happen if they refused to give a rebuttal until they had a chance to write it after the state of the union

[22:25] Wizlevard> g'night surfer.

[22:25] Wizlevard> Enjoy Turkey

[22:26] Wizlevard> don't eat the green hummus

----------------------------------

And the chatter went on.

Democrats are in trouble if that was the best they had to offer. BIG TROUBLE. My choice? They should have pulled a big, bold move and had Obama and Rangel give the riposte.

Pelosi and Reid SUCKED BIG TIME.

I really, really like John Edwards as an orator. Alas, he is neither a Senator nor Congressman. Still, they should have gone with Barak and Rangel. BIG TIME!

It's just absolutely mindboggling how these people just don't have it together. Really.

And I mean it when I said I missed Edwards. But for his "Breck" moments, he really is an awesome orator. And don't get me started with Obama. But he's a Jr. Senator, so they would have never given him the opportunity. To which I say, FUCK TRADITION.

ARGGGHHH! I am so impatient with the Democrats. Really.

This country needs a third party, pronto!

C'mon baby, don't be shy
