Tits, twats and the politics of blogging : A Blog Sheroes meetup

After the last round of mindless drumming about the so-called absence of women good political bloggers came the insanity of having a hack who's shitck is to open any political news with a rimming joke touted not just as a blogger but as a left-wing blogger and, worse than that, the only left-wing political blogger with a vagina worth talking to.

Let's say many progressive, feminist, snarky political goddesses were not happy and voiced their opinions forcefully. Hell has no fury like a blog sister scorned.

So I decided to use the winter of my discontent as fuel for action. The wonderful Ms. Nichelle Stephens of Nichelle Newsletter fame and I are partnering up again to bring the Blog Sheroes meetup series to life.

Just as with the Brown Bloggers series, our intention is to create a monthly opportunity for progressive women bloggers to talk about their practices and projects and to have a montlhy "analog" place to meet, socialize and network. And I cannot say this enough : Get into the act and go local. Would you like me to mock up and invite so y'all can use it as a template for your local Blog Sheroes meetup? No problem. Just go ahead and plan your local event; post it at the sites calendar and give us all a holler. That's the whole point of these meeting --for other women to take the blog and run with it.

Eventhough we have started this out as a Meetup event, we're working on a standalone site for the series. It is in pre-alpha; meaning, it is right out of the box with no customization or design yet. I will be working on that this week. Still, you can go and register to use the site and write up yourself, or any other woman blogger you'd like to promote.

One of the biggest task for this site is to aggegate all the women blogger metablogs that are out there like What She Said and Blogs by Women, among others. So go on over and make sure you add your feed to the list.
