One more before I hit the road
by Liza Sabater
The NARAL post has been creating really awesome discussions at DailyKos and MyLeftWing. And I believe that out of this discussions Markos was inspired to do something unprecedented : He's taken an ad in the Advertising Liberally Network, asking readers to contribute to their favorite blogs. The whole text of his post follows:
Daily Kos: Support your favorite bloggersSupport your favorite bloggers

Wed Aug 24th, 2005 at 18:42:51 ESTI just placed a 50-blog Blogad ad buy through the Liberal Blog Advertising network urging readers of their favorite blogs to donate to those bloggers.
I am an anomaly in the blog world, able to make a living off my work. The vast majority of bloggers struggle to blog between day jobs, family, and other pressures. It's an often thankless job, yet the growth of the progressive blogosphere is a key component of the growth of a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy and must be nurtured.
I don't need the money. And in fact, I've used proceeds from subscriptions and the Daily Kos Store to fund this ad buy. This is about the broader movement. We must encourage the emergence of strong, powerful, liberal voices. We don't have the vast funding infrastructure that takes care of the Right's best voices, but we do have each other.
You can use this thread to talk about your favorite blogs.
There's a lot that I would like to address, but I'm going to the beach! Here's a snippet of my initial reply to Kos :
There's a lot of work that I have not been able to do, at culturekitchen and The Daily Gotham, unfortunately due to lack of resources. It's amazing because, here I have a site in the top 100 of liberal blogs and Top 500 of Feedster but if I don't work, I cannot continue blogging. It's frustrating beyond belief. Not only because I have a family to support, but because I know the work we do in and through my blogs is needed and it would be an abdication of my progressive values to stop doing it due to the lack of money.
I have more than a few recommendations have nothing to do with money. But I'll leave it at this. If you really, really like my blogs there's a few things you can do that do not require giving any money :
- If you have a website or a blog, please, link to my blogs.
- Spread the word about the blogs. Send emails, post at forums, spread it in your newsletters. Let people know about culturekitchen, why you like it and why they should read it. Word-of-mouth people, W.O.M.
- Leave comments, no matter how short they are. Comments are really good and generate good traffic. Let us know you're out there.
- Are you dying to translate our posts into your own language? Send me an email immediately about it. You can do it ASAP, but I'd love to know who's translating our posts out there.
- If you work in a company that may be able to buy BlogAds, please recommend our blogs.
And of course, if you have an extra few bucks to spare, DONATE !

Global village is a term, coined by Marshall McLuhan in his book The Gutenberg Galaxy, describing how electronic mass media collapse space and time barriers in human communication, enabling people to interact and live on a global scale. In this sense, ... [More...]
