Is the governor of Louisiana covering up for George Bush
by Liza Sabater

While looking for the phone numbers of LA government officials, I stumbled upon a weird juxtaposition over at the governor's site. Gov. Blanco's website announced today a request for help from President Bush :

Dear Mr. President:

Let me first thank you for your leadership during this unprecedented natural disaster. Your pledge of assistance for the initial and long-term recovery efforts is reflective of the tremendous outpouring of support by the citizens of our great country. Although we have been dealt a devastating blow, I can assure you Louisiana will recover, rebuild, and restore our communities.

Based on our initial assessment, I have previously requested significant federal support to include: an additional 40,000 troops; trailers of water, ice and food; commercial buses; base camps; staging areas; amphibious personnel carriers; deployable morgues; urban search and rescue teams; airlift; temporary housing; and communications systems. Even if these initial requests had been fully honored, these assets would not be sufficient to address our critical, immediate needs. Additional assistance requirements for the federal government are outlined below. As we continue to assess our needs, I will ensure you receive our updated requirements.

The letter does not make any mention of the request for help and military assistance she sent the White House back on the 28th (Download file). The letter issued on the 28th appears on the site as a PDF. The new letter praising Bush was posted on the site this morning. Given that so many of these government websites as badly managed, I wonder if the second letter was posted without knowing the first was exists but as an attached file.

Very odd indeed.

UPDATE! "Dumbya" at DailyKos noticed the same.

What's really troubling to me is the way that, when the govenor appeared for a press release, she reassured everyone that the troops WOULD shoot and kill if they had to, as if that was the solution everyone had been waiting for. It's all so terribly sad. I sit here on the other side of the world, shaking my head, unbelieving. May this event be the one that shakes you from your collective slumber, where enough people will act from the heart.

The disconnect there is just amazing; and racially speaking, troubling.

Take the power politics between the LA Governor and the mayor of NOLA. It's evident she's basically been making decisions without consulting him : but here is a white woman basically stonewalling a black man in a majority black and poor city.

And don't get me started with Senator Landrieu's platitudes about President Bush. This is the kind of democrat we don't need. Spineless, coward and fucking heartless. Anderson Cooper should have verbally slapped her harder.

I honestly believe this is not about race. This has to do with class, specifically the poor. Why break the long standing tradition of screwing the poor, from being able to buy your way of the civil and revolutionary war drafts to Walmart firing anyone who dares bring up unions. Sadly, if you have no money, you have no power you have no voice. Clearly, the majority of people left behind were black, but I can guarantee 99% of those left behind were poor. There is only one color that matters, and that is… Green.

C'mon baby, don't be shy
