"Members of the Bush Administration responsible for the blatant lies and self-serving manipulations that have fanned the flames of disaster from Iraq to New Orleans must be prosecuted as our laws require."
by Liza Sabater
WELCOME DRUDGERITES
: A copy of the interview you are looking for is hereIn the often and rightly quoted words of Bill Clinton, "There's nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed by what's right with America." We see now how individuals and groups around the country are acting in any way they can to help their fellow citizens in Louisiana, Mississippi and other devastated places near the Gulf of Mexico. They refuse to stand idly by and wait for President Bush and his morally-bankrupt, pirate administration to respond in an appropriately urgent and compassionate manner to the escalating agony and desperation of our fellow citizens. This agony and desperation was caused in large part by a near complete absence of adequate federal government funding, preparedness, and leadership. We the people will continue to help Americans and non-Americans alike, with or without the participation or approval of George W. Bush and his Neo-Conservative cohorts. While it is true that what is most important right now is to rescue, feed, house, and in any way possible care for those immediately affected by the disaster, it is equally true that in the long run those directly responsible for aggravating the tragic situation must be held accountable. The mounting evidence of the Bush administration's criminal mismanagement of the nation, as well as its consistently arrogant disregard for our planet's people and natural environments must be confronted immediately. Those who voted for Bush last year, or who have continually supported his outlaw administration in its destructively dishonest conduct, including not only extremist conservatives but also politically-calculating democrats, need not hang their heads or avert their eyes now. What they can and ought to do is join the increasing numbers of Americans who are demanding that presidential impeachment proceedings be initiated as soon as possible. Members of the Bush Administration responsible for the blatant lies and self-serving manipulations that have fanned the flames of disaster from Iraq to New Orleans must be prosecuted as our laws require. We must insist on this. Furthermore, we must not allow these disgracefully unpatriotic public servants to be pardoned by any future president as Gerald Ford did for Richard Nixon. Please call or write your government representatives and help get the scoundrels out of government and in prison where they belong. Do not allow the subject to be changed, do not be distracted. The time to act is now. Take back your country.
- Viggo Mortensen, 1 Sept., 2005.
I could not have said it any better.
And just because you've put made my heart and mind afire, I shall inaugurate a new category under which we shall be writing extensively : Impeachment. Just for you, papito.
BTW : I just can't understand why that man isn't blogging. Seriously. I think he would be brilliant at it.

Say it loud, say it proud!
I wish he would - people would listen to him.
Now about that impeachment - we need to get that wave moving again. Is there anyplace that has a list of Bush's crimes already assembled?

I've always been of the mind that talk of impeachment was a pointless left wing fantasy. After watching what is going down in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast I now feel like it is now a patriotic duty to demand that this administration step down. We truely have a drunken imbicle with a nasty temper driving the bus. We have to stop him before he takes us over a cliff. Just this morning I watched as Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, stood in front of the nations press and straight faced claimed that a levee breaking in New Orleans after a cat. 4 hurricane was as likely as a bomb going off and could not have been expected.
Criminal Negligence.

My only problem with impeachment is that if only Bush is being impeached, then we're left with Cheney...
If it can't be a two-fer, then I would have to say forget about it.

From my place earlier today:
"WHEREAS George Walker Bush has repeatedly lied (both by commission and by omission) to the American people, to international agencies, to our allies, and to the world at large, both in his own person and through his subordinates; and
"WHEREAS George Walker Bush has neglected to see that the laws of this nation are faithfully executed, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, in planning, preparing, and conspiring with others to commit crimes against peace by waging a war of aggression against Iraq in violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, the Nuremberg Principles, the Kellogg-Briand Pact, numerous other treaties and agreements between the United States and other nations, and the Constitution of the United States; and
"WHEREAS George Walker Bush has appointed, or caused to be appointed, persons of questionable competence and probity to offices of public trust and honor in the government of the United States, such persons including, but not necessarily limited to, Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice, Michael Brown, Alberto Gonzalez, and Michael Chertoff, and has repeatedly failed to discipline such persons despite repeated instances of questionable behavior or demonstrated lack of competence to perform the duties and responsibilities of the offices to which they have been appointed; and
"WHEREAS George Walker Bush has repeatedly and consistently acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice, and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States;
"NOW THEREFORE do we, the People of the United States, resolve that George Walker Bush, by such conduct hereinabove referenced, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office, and urge that our elected Representatives in the Congress of the United States do the same, impeaching George Walker Bush, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors within the meaning of the applicable clause of the Constitution of the United States, and exhibiting these articles of impeachment, and any others which may be found suitable, to the Senate."
And there's absolutely no reason not to include Cheney, Hastert, and all the rest in the articles as well.

If this DEBACLE does not take the whole crowd out by impeachment and resignations then we citizens can expect the same hideous fate currently being suffered by thousands of innocent Americans, be it by hurricane, floods, tornadoes or earthquakes whenever they occur. This is a NATIONAL DISGRACE!!!!

The incompetance, and blatant lies by this corrupt administration must end. And it is the job of the American people to see that it does. When Bush stood up in front of the world and patted FEMA director Micheal Brown on the back and said what a great job he was doing, I nearly gagged! Does he really think the American people are that stupid, that we can't see what is in front of our faces? Bush has the conscience of a serial-killer! Please I beg, do not let this form of goverment murder go unpunished.

A gentleman doesn't accuse another of lying without solid evidence to back it up. For all the sound and fury of "Bush Lied!", there has yet to be a showing that the Bush administration knew that Iraq had no stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, as was believed by virtually every Western intelligence service and declared to be true by Bill Clinton in 1998, when HE bombed Iraq in Operation Desert Fox.
As for the touted "Downing Street Memo," to paraphrase Inigo Montoya, "I do not think it means what you think it means." That memo is evidence that a British official believed that the Americans had concluded that Iraq had a WMD program, and was marshaling further evidence in support of its conclusion. That's all.
Think about it. I know you think that George W. Bush is a mouth-breathing moron, but don't you think it would be pretty dumb, even for him, to base an invasion of Iraq on the premise that Iraq was developing WMDs, knowing that a successful invasion would reveal the falsity of the premise?

Viggo, I enjoyed your performance in LOTR; however, it is time to get off the stage. Would you tell the people of Germany that was wasn't the answer for them? How about the slaves of our country? Should we have left the issue alone and allowed the South to secede? Granted, war is not often the best answer; however, in the case of terrorism there are two choices: appease them and be conquered; or fight them and hopefully crush their movement before it crushes us. As for George Bush, why is he the only liar? Why weren’t you calling for the impeachment of Bill Clinton when he claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and sent cruise missiles over? If lying was an impeachable offense then more of you should have pushed for it with the last President.

HOW TO STUMP VIGGO (or any deranged leftist):
Question 1: If Bush is so corrupt, why didn't he simply plant some WMDs in Iraq? LBJ would have, Clinton might have, but W. took it like a man.
Question 2: Is there ANY world problem for which America is not to blame? A liberal pauses on this one EVERY TIME! Gotcha, Baby!!!

So where exactly are you coming from? I am seeing the site getting pounded by people googling "Viggo Impeachment".
I had no idea you guys wanted to impeach Viggo; although, as it is, you can't.
Heh.
Now to Thomas, Darwin and Rupe : YOU HAVE TO BE JOKING, RIGHT?
The whole premise of the invasion was that Saddam Hussein had attacked the US with the help of Al-Qeda and they were developing WMDs for a larger US target.
How you twist the logic of them knowing it was a lie because it was never a lies is just the kind of thing Republicans have been doing for the past 5 years in this country. You can never take responsibility for your actions, can you?

The site is getting pounded because Drudge put his quote up, but the link doesn't work. Therefore, interested people are googling it.
My two cents...
Viggo should stick to acting. As stated above, war is often the answer. It gained our independence, freed the slaves, ended Japanese Imperialism, and halted the spread of Nazism and Fascism. Of coure it would have been great if King George, Jefferson Davis and the leaders of the Confederacy, Tojo, Mussolini, and Hitler had proven to be persuaded by diplomacy, but they were not. Those who proclaim the bumper sticker slogan "War is not the answer," never offer a better solution for those situations.

Liza - are you really this clueless?
"The whole premise of the invasion was that Saddam Hussein had attacked the US with the help of Al-Qeda and they were developing WMDs for a larger US target."
Give me a break. The premise of the invasion was not that Saddam had attacked the US, but that he was friendly with those who attacked the US and that he had WMDs and WMD expertise which could be invaluable for Al-Qaeda.
You are trying to re-write history here and I'm here to set the facts straight!
The Feds were roundly ridiculed for not "connecting the dots" b/f 9-11 and so Bush connected these dots and anyone with half a brain could see the potential dangers of having Saddam providing a safe haven for Al-Qaeda types and perhaps arming them with WMDs to boot.
Everyone knows the old addage, "an enemy of my enemy is my friend". We even used it when we supported Saddam against Iran when the Shah of Iran fell to the Islamic fundamentalists (thanks to Carter's ineptitude as President by the way).
Grow up Liza and all you libs. the world is a dangerous place and you better be ready to take some pretty nasty actions in order to hold the wolves at bay - otherwise, you won't have the freedom to even post on a board like this!
As some have said on this board, WAR is not the best answer, but sometimes it is the only answer. It takes a responsible adult to know when that time comes and to have the guts to see it to the end.

Let's see. The liberal Democrats pass programs that fail everytime, them blame the failure on conservative Republicans. Their solution to their stupidity and the mess they have made over the last 50 years is to impeach President Bush. Makes perfect sense if you are about to vanish onto the ash heap of history.

So a big liberal crybaby homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with that) is up in arms about this government. What's new? Open your checkbook ledger up, man. What have you done to fix things in the hurricane ravaged South? People hundreds of years ago built a city in a bowl and when the bowl gets filled, it's Bush's fault he didn't make things all better in a week? Louisiana, the most corrupt state in the union, is DEMOCRATIC, Viggo. Impeach everybody down there for mismanagement and callous disregard for the safety of their constituents
