The political power of taxonomies
by Liza Sabater
Earlier this morning the Andrew Rasiej campaign sent out an email asking people to post about the candidate for public advocate on their blogs tagged with "Rasiej". Then they were asked to run some searches over at Technorati. The results are on the front page :
The concept behind this strategy is one of pure viral marketing for the sake of free publicity. The problem with this, of course, is that corporate marketing departments will be able to follow suit and game the system to get their products on that front page. I wonder how Technorati is going to handle this one in the future.
This is an interesting experiment, though. I hope my fellow bloggers will join in with the coming John Roberts SCOTUS hearings. Let's see how we can work with this knowledge to virally spread our opposition to Roberts using these blog and search tools to the max.
Let the war of ideas begin.

Say it loud, say it proud!
It's an interesting idea but realistically, how much can that really help? Rasiej is fairly well-known, online and off, yet has no chance in the primary. The party machines in NY have a tighter grip on who wins and loses than most other states. Also, it would've been better and smarter for him to have done this earlier, not actually on primary day when it won't have any effect.

Uh, isn't that the exact opposite of a war of ideas.

The Impeach Bush Coalition moonbats have been doing the same thing for several days. I don't know that they've actually asked people to "bomb" Technorati but they've made plenty of noise about the number one search and hinted that they needed more hits when iPod Nano and Rasiej moved it down the list.

"War of ideas"?? Hello, stop being childish.
Shouting the loudest does not equate to "a war of ideas". It's intellectually dishonest. And you wonder why the right is winning in the war of ideas, while the left merely heckles.

"War of Ideas?" Something really needs to be done about you bloodthirsty chickenhawks...
This idea strikes me as the equivalent of people who unscrew the salt shaker lids in diners, so the next guest gets a pile of salt on their food.

Grim Citizen...if you read the original posting, you may discover that the author leans decidely to the left. "Bloodthirsty Chickenhawks" may not be the most apt description.
I understand how you feel though, the thought of all those young, naive ideas, being sent into a War of Ideas. Especially when everyone knows that no Conjunctions of Mass Connections have been found.
