50% of Americans agree with Viggo : Impeach Bush
by Liza Sabater

Well Mr. Mortensen, you have more people agreeing with you than what you probably thought.

Back in June, Zogby asked the "I" question; most specifically, in relation to the war in Iraq. In that poll, 42% of the respondents declared they'd want to hold GWB accountable for lying about the reasons to go to war with Iraq. Democrats.com, AfterDowningStreet.com and a number of other prominent bloggers asked Zogby to run another poll in the wake of Bush's ghastly approval ratings, especially after Katrina. Zogby declined.

So the blogs raised the money and paid Ipsos Public Affairs to conduct the survey. Some of their findings?

* Solid majorities of those under age 55 (54%), as well as those with household incomes below $50,000 (57%), support impeachment.

* Majorities favored impeachment in the Northeast (53%), West (51%), and even the South (50%).

Poll: Americans Favor Bush's Impeachment If He Lied about Iraq | Democrats.com | Both the Ipsos and Zogby polls asked about support for impeachment if Bush lied about the reasons for war, rather than asking simply about support for impeachment. Pollsters predict that asking simply about impeachment without any context would produce a large number of "I don't know" responses. However, this may understate the percentage of Americans who favor Bush's impeachment for other reasons, such as his slow response to Hurricane Katrina, his policy on torture, soaring gasoline prices, or other concerns.

Other polls show a majority of U.S. adults believe that Bush did in fact lie about the reasons for war. A June 23-26 ABC/Washington Post poll found 52% of Americans believe the Bush administration "deliberately misled the public before the war," and 57% say the Bush administration "intentionally exaggerated its evidence that pre-war Iraq possessed nuclear, chemical or biological weapons."

Support for the war has dropped significantly since June, which suggests that the percentage of Americans who believe Bush lied about the war has increased.

The complete tables for the Ipsos poll is here.

Now that my imaginary boyfriend has blasted the "I" word into the mainstream, I have part of wingnotopia visiting asking for proof of Bushe's lies. Oh dear ... amazing there are people out there willing to believe Bush is a saint of some making. Anyhow, Barabara has a great round-up of links that point to how the Judith Miller, Valerie Plame, Guckert Gannon and Downing Street Memos are going to be blasted open by the Fitzgerald investigation.

Does it get better? Of course it does : Only 39% of Americans think GW Bush is doing a good job in pollings surveryed by both Ipsos and NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

Bush approval dips below 40 percent - Politics - MSNBC.com | For the first time in the poll, Bush’s approval rating has sunk below 40 percent, while the percentage believing the country is heading in the right direction has dipped below 30 percent. In addition, a sizable plurality prefers a Democratic-controlled Congress, and just 29 percent think Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is qualified to serve on the nation’s highest court.

"Any way you slice this data, I think these are just terrible sets of numbers," said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

The poll shows that Bush’s approval rating stands at 39 percent, a new low for the president. In the last NBC/Wall Street Journal survey, which was released in mid-September, 40 percent approved of Bush’s job performance while 55 percent disapproved. In addition, just 28 percent believe the country is headed in the right direction, another all-time low in Bush’s presidency.

Strikingly, much has happened in the time between those two polls — many of them seemingly positive events for the White House. The president delivered a prime-time speech from New Orleans, in which he promised to rebuild the Gulf Coast. He also made several more visits to the region, to examine the damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Furthermore, he saw the Senate confirm John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and he nominated Miers, his White House counsel, to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Time to start chilling that bottle of impeachment shnapps ... or was it vodka?

you know, impeachment seems like a hopeless cause, but dubya and co. are proving so wonderfully compliant in providing more and more and more ammo for this battle. i think if we could get a couple of members of the House to start the ball rolling, even if it was initially for censure, the momentum would begin. and if the Rs do badly next year, or fear they will, them rats will abandon ship faster than rove spins a new lie about why. he & delay have made mucho enemies in the party, and now that they've proven not to have staying power, vengeance is quite likely.

let's get viggo on the road with cindy sheehan, have michael moore make the documentary, and roll on, columbia, roll on!

I love it when all the lefties get riled up about this. You know what the poll question asked? It asked "if" he lied. That is an important qualifier. The Bush administration said the same thing that the British did and the same as the French. Don't you understand that? Sheesh! The fact is that he didn't lie and there is no proof and he will not be impeached, end of story. You are all setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Yes, of course Bush and Co. should be impeached. Anybody who still believes what "DISMAYED" just said in Post 7 just refuses to face the reality of this administration's lies. That explains why here in California, Bush's approval rating is sinking fast, because the moderate GOP doesn't agree with Bush's anti-American agenda. Hardcord conservatives can keep standing proud next to this criminal mob but everybody else is at least starting to see the light...and it's a dimly lit bulb...almost out...almost.
