Bye Bye Harriet
by Jeff Langstraat

Harriet Miers withdrew her own nomination for the Supreme Court this morning. I was watching the local Fox affiliate's morning program when they broke in with the news. The best part was their rotund right wing loudmouth saying that a good Halloween Costume would be to smash an egg on your face and go as George Bush.

I really don't have a lot to say about the Miers nomination (She's apparently using the "If I make available info from my time working for Georgie, then that will impede on the President's ability to receive good advice" (watching NECN right now). Sounds a little like the Cheney energy commission dodge.

If this really was Shrubbie going against all his advisors, resolute in his own ability and knowledge, continuing to make "bold" decisions, one can hardly wait to see what kind of fun we'll have with Rove outside the White House. C'mon Fitzy, where are those indictments?

My cat is also named Harriet, so I thought I'd toss up a picture of her, because she's about as qualified for the Supreme Court as Miers. Maybe if I submit her name to Shrubbie, we can get her on the Court. After all, she's sat between me and law review articles--I can assume she might have read a line or two. She's occassionally glanced at my computer screen as I was reading a legal opinion, so she might have picked up something. Wouldn't that be a great face to see as you're arguing the right to privacy?

ARGH! You beat me to it!

On the matter of your Harriet, wouldn't that make Miers a lap-cat? Oooooh. The analogy is too good to pass up.

Well, she couldn't ask fewer questions than Thomas. And wouldn't it be fun to see Supreme Court reporters try to read the tea leaves--During oral arguments today, Supreme Court Justice Harriet was observed giving herself a bath, no more oblivious to the proceedings than Justice Thomas, who appeared to be napping.

I think Harriet the cat is insulted. I'm sure that she's more qualified for the SCOTUS than either of the two persons being discussed.

She's so offended that she actually didn't finish all of the catnip I left for her. She's napping, now, though.

go harriet. harriet langstraat, that is. in addition to being a better nominee for the supreme court than harriet miers, harriet langstraat would also make a better president than the one currently in office.
