deficit

So 2010 is all about jobs, fiscal responsibility and the deficit but not immigration reform?

And people think am a cynic when I say Democrats are not going to do anything that will shake the "all enforcement, all the time" nativist framing of Comprehensive Immigration Reform. From Coming Up In 2010: All About The Deficit | TPMDC:

Top aides on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue say 2010 will be the year of fiscal responsibility, even if President Obama has to battle with progressive Democrats to make cuts they won't like.

"Next year the focus will be jobs and fiscal responsibility," House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told TPMDC in a briefing with two reporters Thursday.

Hoyer (D-MD) said one reason Democrats are having a tough time one year before the Congressional midterm elections is that voters are concerned about the nation's fiscal health, and they also want to see the unemployment rate shrink.

You see what happened here? A Democrat swallowed whole an extreme-right talking point and ran with it.

Let's see how so-called Liberals and Progresives try to unframe that one.

Breaking down Ed Henry's stupidity (or why journalism as we know it needs to die die die)

Gawker is making fun, and pointedly so, of how some big media reporters are grousing about the fact that President Obama didn't call on most major newspapers but did take questions from Univisión and Ebony Magazine. Of course, given how awesomely impartial and objective this cadre reporters is, they attribute the snub to either Obama being too scared to mess up his opening speech or to his desire to control the message, even as far as "debriefing" the White House surrogates (or talkers) who would be hitting major TV news outlets after the press conference.

There is any more objectivity in journalism, particularly political reporting, than there is blogging and yet Lynn Sweet, Michael Calderon, Ron Fournier and Ed Henry would want us to believe that they are the only ones capable of asking the right questions to get the answers the public needs to hear. Well, if by right we mean, "talking points of the GOP", then obviously they are the perfect messengers.

Let's take the above clip of Obama smacking down Ed Henry. The CNN reporter's question was actually two republican talking points :

Cost of War: How would you spend it?

Healthcare is failing in America. Farmers are hurting. The poor are getting poorer. We can't fix our roads, levees and bridges. The deficit spirals out of control. We are told we can't afford to secure out ports against terrorism. And education is underfunded.

And the Iraq war is costing us $720 million per day. Wouldn't that money be spent on improving life here in America?

From the American Friends Service committee:

Bush is hurting America with this failed war based on lies and with no exit strategy. McCain has vowed to continue Bush's failed war. It is time to stop the stupidity and neglect of America by the Republican Party.

The Bush Family Endorses John McCain: America Unimpressed

The Big Bush, Little Gerogie Bush, and Jeb Bush have all given John McCain their approval. Could there be a worse endorsement?

The Bush family have brought us two of the least popular Presidents in American history.

The Bush family helped arm Saddam Hussein before declaring him our enemy. They have brought us two Iraq wars, the most recent has turned into a quagmire sucking our soldiers and dollars down with no end in sight and no exit stratgy and no strategic purpose.

The Bush family helped arm al-Qaeda, then stupidly ignored warnings of an impending attack, allowing al-Qaeda to hit us hard. And they have failed to stop al-Qaeda even AFTER they attacked us.

The Bush family has brought us some of the worst economic times since the Great Depression, giving us no fewer than three rescessions with little recovery under their watch. Job growth under the Bush family has been rock bottom.

The Bush family represents nothing but failed domestic policy, failed foreign policy and deficits, deficits, deficits. About the only people who still like the Bush family are their good friends in Saudi Arabia: the Royal Saud family and their close allies, the bin Laden family.

QUOTES

Politics are not the answer for black people, never have been, never will be. Been knocking on that door for too long now...nobody has answered...STOP knocking!

This is not to say that some well-meaning but, misguided, black people have not attempted to promote change through these channels but...c'mon people...it aint workin'

I would also like to add, that black people are NOT a monolith. There is room for a plethora of opinions, discourses, methodologies, and passions in the struggle...HOWEVER...there is no room for self loathing and the loathing and mistrust of other black people.
