Bush Family Pastor Attacks McCain's Character and Endorses Barack Obama
Seems the Republicans are losing on the "character" and "values" issues. The pastor and spiritual advisor to the Bush family, the very man who presided at Jenna Bush's wedding recently, has harshly criticized Republican John McCain for his lack of values and poor character and has endorsed Barack Obama.
Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell of the Windsor Village United Methodist Church gave the official benedictions at Bush's inauguration in 2001 and 2005. Although a controversial figure for his first inaugural benediction in 2001 that explicitly excluded non-Christians, and for his inspiration of Bush's "faith based initiatives," there is no question that he is in touch with what Republicans mean when they discuss values and character.
Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell just publicly denounced John McCain's morals and has endorsed Barack Obama.
This seems to have been precipitated by the furor about John Edwards' affair, leading Caldwell to point out John McCain's own infidelities. It was also precipitated by John McCain's offering up of his wife to a topless and rather obscene (keyword: banana) pagent at the Sturgis bike rally last week. I guess John McCain's behavior is not pleasing Christians interested in true values rather than mere words.

On prostitution
I cannot lie : I can't understand the whole concept of prostitution.
I can't understand why I woman would want to get paid by 2, 3, 6, 10 guys (or gals) a night to make rent. I can't understand how people can use their bodies as a tool or an instrument in that fashion.
I can't understand either why a guy would want to pay for sex. Yes, I know, I've heard about the whole "it's about having control and power and no string attached" spiel. Yet whereas many people see that as an exploitative act that gives men an unlimited amount of power, I see it more as a sign of weakness and even impotence. A guy that has to pay for it can't get it any other way and paying it for it is just part of the thrill.
Yet just because I don't understand the psychological dynamics of prostitution does it mean that it should be outlawed. On the contrary, just as with most drugs, I believe that we should follow Holland's lead and legalize prostitution.
Banning prostitution is not going to make it go away. On the contrary, the allure of breaking the taboo would be even stronger. If women and men want to turn sex into a transaction then, by all means, make it safe and make it fair.
Prostitution should be taxed and considered labor.
Prostitutes should be certified by the board of health.
Prostitution houses ought to be licensed and provide security services, along with health benefits and other labor benefits, to all their workers.

Nuns Gone Wild: American Nuns Call for Impeachment and an End to the War
There is a radical, left wing conspiracy afoot in America...The National Coalition of American Nuns!

(photo lifted from PBS)
This is from the Winston-Salem Journal (also covered on Daily Kos):
“The National Coalition of American Nuns is impelled by conscience to call you to act promptly to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for ... high crimes and misdemeanors,†the group wrote in a letter written on behalf of its board members...
The letter was approved during a mid-August meeting of the board, held in Chicago. During that same meeting, the board unanimously adopted statements opposing all war and affirming peacemaking efforts. “Rather than continuing support of a just-war theory, a more compassionate church would oppose all war and teach peacemaking skills for all levels of government and interpersonal conflict resolution,†the statement reads.
The board also adopted statements pledging to work to “moderate the impact we make on planet Earth,†and supporting nuclear disarmament and relief efforts for the poor in Africa.

Quote of the weak
There is another problem with moral equivalence between [Ann] Coulter and [Bill] Maher. Such a comparison brings conservatives down to the liberal level. It says that conservatives are incapable of maintaining higher standards.

The truth about marriage
I was doing some voogling and I stumbled upon one of the funniest "educational" videos I have seen in a long time.
“The TRUTH About Marriage†is an over-the-top satirical look at the current gay marriage debate. Presented in the style of 1950’s ... all » educational films, “The TRUTH About Marriage†asks the question: How far HAVE we come in the last forty years?
This is definitely not for the politically faint of heart. If you are missing the IHG (irreverent humor gene), you should steer clear of this video.
Enjoy.
