Weight Loss

Dear Angelina,

Please do not lose any weight. Not one ounce. Not one milligram. You look perfect just the way you are right now.

Seriously, you make ME want to lose 40 pounds, cover myself in leather and tattoos and totally go butch for a night of good lesbo love for you.

Did I say I am a het?

Yet gurl, you got it going on after those twins. It's why I can't believe the rumors that you've been falling on your anorectic tendencies because you feel fat and ugly.

You know I don't have to tell you EVERY SINGLE WOMAN goes through that after giving birth. Don't knock yourself down woman. You look perfect. Eat more a couple of hamburgers a week and splurge on that pizzas you like.

'Cause, child, you make a het woman want to go totally bi for you. Am thinking if I want to hit that with you ten thousand ways to Monday, I'd have to find it in my heart to entertain Brad. Anyhow, you look lovely and perfect and healthy.

So girl, stay just the way you are.

Love,
liza

This is so wrong on so many levels

Yet you gotta love a headline like Nestle swallows Jenny Craig:

Analysts say they expect Nestle to take advantage of the brand recognition of Jenny Craig to begin selling an expanded line of meals through supermarkets and other channels, where Nestle can use its scale and influence to command premium shelf space. The market for diet-related products is growing by almost 10 per cent a year.

For Nestle, which already owns Lean Cuisine, the deal will bolster its position against rivals such as Unilever, which sells Slim-Fast packaged meals and shakes - a business that is growing at double digits - as well as Weight Watchers International and ConAgra Foods, which owns Healthy Choice.

The deal also marks the first time a giant food manufacturer has made such a big bet on a business that is not strictly about selling food.

I mean, seriously :

  • A chocolate company owns a weight loss company.
  • ConAgra, the people that make farm animal feed also owns Weight Whatchers?
  • The "fat industry" is growing 10% annually?!?!

Words to live by

While a considerable number of Muslims in the U.S. are African American, and most of the African Americans are engaged in limited income jobs, Muslim immigrants in the US have relatively higher household incomes -- partly, a consequence of liberalization of U.S. immigrant policies in the 60s that opened the doors to skilled and educated immigrants. Consequently, many in the immigrant Muslim population did not face the same level of economic, political, and institutional discrimination termed "structural racism", as faced by many in the African American and now predominantly in the Mexican immigrant communities in the U.S.

Here, then, lies a promise in the recent spate of racist attacks against Muslims in the US. There is a parallel in racism meted out to Muslims, African Americans, and Latino immigrants. It is hoped that many in the American Muslim immigrant community will use the present climate of Muslim xenophobia to challenge the trap inherent in their own class privilege and the status as a high achieving "model minority" that often creates a distance from those less privileged in the community.
