HUMANISTS CONDEMN CHILD SACRIFICE IN SWAZILAND

Humanists condemn the killings and sacrifice of children in Swaziland. We are particularly outraged by the reported case (in the Times of Swaziland Friday May 9 2008)of a 'new born baby hanged with umbilical cord on a tree' and other cases of child murder and mutilation in the country. These acts of human savagery are believed to be carried out for ritual purposes by persons seeking spiritual power, fortune, protection and fortification. Cases of child murder and sacrifice are expected to rise especially now Swazis are preparing for elections. And politicians will be trying to acquire some muti(charms) that would help them succeed.

Humanists urge all Swazis to shun these inhuman and barbaric acts, irrational beliefs and practices. We ask all Swazis to abandon harmful traditions and respect human rights especially the human rights of children to life and security of persons.
Humanists implore the people of Swaziland to leave superstitions and embrace scientific temper and critial thinking. We call on the governement of the Kingdom of Swaziland to protect the rights of all children in the country

"As a Christian, there is no other part of the New Right ideology that concerns me more than its self-serving misuse of religious faith. What is at stake here is the very integrity of biblical truth. The New Right, in many cases, is doing nothing less than placing a heretical claim on Christian faith that distorts, confuses, and destroys the opportunity for a biblical understanding of Jesus Christ and of his gospel for millions of people."
