Ted Strickland, douchebag
Can't this man just say, "I'm not interested in being VP, thanks so much" and just leave it at that? Why does he have to give any ammunition to the Obama haters by saying shit like this?
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Ohio Governor Ted Strickland – who has often been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama – said Tuesday that if asked, he would “absolutely not” join the party’s presidential ticket this fall.
Strickland, who backed Hillary Clinton during the primary season, told NPR’s Michele Norris that he was taking himself out of the running. “Absolutely not. If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve,” he said, in an interview on NPR's All Things Considered. “So, I don’t know how more crystal clear I can be.”
Obama lost the Ohio primary to Clinton.
The swing state governor, who has endorsed Barack Obama, dismissed the idea that all potential running mates deny interest in the job. “No, I don’t think they all say that. I’ve heard people say, ‘you know, if I was asked, it would certainly be something I would have to consider.’ That does not mean that I am any less committed to helping Barack Obama become the next president,” Strickland said in an NPR transcript of the interview, which is scheduled to air Tuesday night. He is scheduled to join Obama on the campaign trail in Ohio this Friday.
Now, you'd think that people would understand that professionally, it would be absolutely STUPID for John Edwards to run once again as VP to anybody. That's why people like me are clamoring for him to get the Attorney General post.
So what do Hillarytons have to say about this? That it's proof Obama is mediocre and is being reject by the party establishment.
Uh, yeah, right, because all those superdelegates that helped nominate him are not.
Fucktards.
By the way, Strickland was one of Clinton's staunchest supporters. I guess someone just shat on the plate that's going to feed him for the next four years.

Excuse me?
From which blog are you coming that you're parroting this "Shermanesque" bullshit as if it were not a negative word to begin with?
Do you know who the hell is William T. Sherman to begin with?
The historical context of Sherman's tone makes the interpretation of Strickland's words even worse. If you want to defend the guy, don't use the word Shermanesque to begin with!
I am not from any blog in
I am not from any blog in particular, yours came up while I was looking for information on the Strickland interview. Whatever you think of William T. Sherman, his statement and the paraphrases thereof are pretty much the only way to get people to stop asking you if you are going to run for office. You overreacted because you did not understand the reference Strickland was making, and yelling at me is not going to make you look any more educated. He made the exact same statement when he was being asked about becoming Hillary's VP.
I concurr with the other commenter who said that people like you make Obama's supporters look bad.
Strickland is at best
Strickland is at best mediocre on reproductive rights, so it's just as well he's not interested, in my book. Keep him out of the administration altogether.
When I first saw that comment I read it as total loser spin
I would think he would be one of the last people to be considered but wanted to "reject" the nomination before having the world know he was never considered in the first place.
Obama's VP
The difference between substance and hype has been the axis of the last 13 months. The Obama supporters fail to understand why 18 million people voted for Hillary Clinton, and why when handed the narrow option of Obama and McCain, they hesitate or grit their teeth when backing Obama. Stickland voiced his opinion and dismissed an idea. And, yes, it does speak to the ability of Obama to win swing states. Unlike the democratic primaries, the general election is winner take all. He can will all the states he wants, but without the big states it means nothing.
So who will be Obama’s VP? His choice is his first test and will go a long way in influencing the Clinton supporters and those still undecided.
You fail to understand
that the "18 million voters" is a lie, but who's counting.
It Cracks me up...
It cracks me up how Obama supporters act like he blew her out of the water with votes. Obama has .1% more of the popular vote than her if you dont count MI,NV,IA,ME and WA
Obama - 17,535,458 (48.1%)
Clinton - 17,493,836 (48.0%)
Now if you count MI,NV,IA, ME and WA Clinton comes out on top with more than him and pushing over 18 million at- 18,046,007 (47.9%) to Obama's 17,869,542 (47.4%)
The democratic party runs their primaries horribly. They need to run their primaries like the Republicans do. Thats why in the last forty years we have only had TWO democrats in office. I can't stand most of them but they play it smart. They do mostly winner take all primaries, which is a reflection of who has the best chance of winning come Nov. Not some convoluted "lets be fair" thing that screws us in the end. Now don't get me wrong. I will vote for Obama because I HATE McCain. I hope Obama wins, but I just don't see it happening. A whole lot of people in middle America are not gonna go for this guy.
These are imaginary numbers
CNN already did this and I wish they had posted this on their site. You can't count Florida and Michigan nor the caucus states that don't keep track of votes. That would actually put Obama ahead by 600,000. But people like you want to include the disallowed states.
Look, voters came out in record numbers. Clinton's and Obama's popular vote numbers are more of an estimate than actual electoral fact. The estimates are still nothing to sneeze about ---between 14 and 18 million people came out to vote for each candidate.
People, and especially the media, are throwing a really bad bone to Hillary Clinton by allowing her to parrot 18 million like it's a factual number when it is not. But saying it's an estimate doesn't sound so hot in a concession speech, doesn't it. It just doesn't sound ok to say that there's an estimated 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling.
Yet the truth is still the truth. The numbers are estimated, not factual. It's still an incredible number of people, but it's not the actual total tally.
You can parrot an estimate as if where a factual and total number. That doesn't make it any less of a lie.
come on now.
Obama- 17,535,458 48.1% Clinton -17,493,836 48.0%
This IS the total. Not an estimate. Now it would be foolish to think that she didn't reach close to 18 million or over with all of those other states (uncounted) figures.
For the haters
On June 5th, 2008 Ted Strickland, one of Hillary Clinton's biggest supporters, endorsed Senator Obama. This is a quote from MSNBC.com "Today, I announce my wholehearted and enthusiastic support for Barack Obama for President of the United States.
Earlier today I talked with Sen. Hillary Clinton. I thanked her for her friendship and the strong effort she put forth in this historic campaign. I pledged to work with her to unify the party and to make sure that Barack Obama wins the presidency.
Ohioans have suffered as a result of the failed policies of the Bush Administration, including job loss as a result of rising fuel prices. Ohioans desperately want real, meaningful change. And I believe Barack Obama will bring that change."
His name was NEVER formally brought up as a VP choice, he made the assumption that he would be considered. Since he is the Governer of a "battleground state"
So for all you radical Clinton supporters that are reading this blog, perhaps you should do some checking before you start spreading your hate around. I hope that Senator Clinton is reading all the hate that you people are talking and says something about it, you are killing her party and should be ashamed of yourselves. And by the way, I am a Clinton Supporter and will vote as she will for Senator Obama !!!!!!!!
Dummy's Can Vote too...
Dear Liza, I think you should push your glasses closer to your eyes so that you can see the stink lines rising from the crap you just dropped.
You would think for a woman your age and for some one so into politics, you would know what the "Sherman speech" is.
It's people like you who make me a little embarassed to say out loud that I support Obama. I hate to admitt this, but Obama has some of the most radical and ignorant supporters.
Bitch.
So sweetie, tell me something,
Do you actually understand why exactly because it is Shermanesque it is a STUPID choice of tone?
Dear Radical Silvia
I think you need to take a walk around the block and see the Hillary supporters. You have NO idea what you are talking about. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if you were one, given what you just said. If you support someone no matter, what you YELL it from the roof tops, not cower in a corner.
Perhaps you should take off your rose colored glasses and take a look at the real world.
Obama's flight
Strickland has the common sense not to climb into Obama's home-made airplane because he can see that, while it might get off the ground, it's not going to be such a great trip. Why would any clear-thinking person want to join up with this bunch of confused losers? This is a job for Dennis Kucinich.
And you call yourself a democrat?
I honestly can't understand the alleged Clinton supporters who look at Obama and think he is a loser. He out organized her, out fundraised her and out campaigned her and yet to you he's a loser.
I know people working for McCain who are in complete awe of the guy and yet you alleged Clinton supporters are impervious coming Obama's way.
You can't call yourself a democrat if you want the winner of your party to lose.
AGREE
Well said, L. Strickland sure comes off as a selfless servant of the people with his comment, eh? He is a grade-A D-bag.
Two Questions
Hi Liza--
This is the first time I've been on your blog. I was a Hillary supporter, but am open to the idea of getting to know Obama better as the nominee, and eventually supporting him in November.
I have two questions:
1) What's wrong with Ted Strickland not wanting the VP post? He doesn't want the job. He never said he didn't want to do it because Obama would be at the top of the ticket. You don't really explain your antithesis towards him, other than saying he had supported Hillary. I'm inferring here that anyone who had supported Hillary could be subject to such strong condemnation, if they do not immediately embrace Obama.
2) Why are you so vitriolic in your condemnation of him? A lot of what kept me away from supporting Obama was the quick-to-anger, quick-to-judgment stance of many of his supporters. I have to wonder if you think this vitriol towards people who do not agree with your worldview is helpful.
Thanks and Peace!
