British Royal Family Put Bush Family to Shame
UPDATE: As I guessed, Prince Harry is being withdrawn now that the press has let the cat out of the bag that he is over there.
Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, wanted to go Iraq when the unit he was serving in was deployed. He wanted to do his duty. They didn't let him because of the danger.
But it turns out, he has actually been serving in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban.
I am no big fan of Royalty, and Brit Royalty in particular seem a bit silly. But right now, America, with a VP and most of the Republican Party that are chickenhawks, and a President that is not only a chickenhawk but went AWOL from his cushy non-combat position daddy Bush landed him, I have to tip my hat to the British Royal Family. They put themselves on the line where their nation's aggression goes...and they always have.
From BBC news:

Prince Harry has been fighting the Taleban on the front line in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
Harry, 23, who is third in line to the throne, has spent the last 10 weeks serving in Helmand Province.
"I finally get the chance to do the soldiering that I want to do," the prince said ahead of his deployment.
Wow...a nation whose leaders put their bodies where their mouths are. Bush crawled away in a drunken stupor and pissed himself (or a police car) rather than serve. Wait...let's see how Bush really served his country:

Just about the entire Republican Party leadership are chickenhawks who never dreamed of serving their nation, though give credit where credit is due, at least John McCain has served with distinction the way John Kerry did. In 2006 Democrats elected a whole slew of combat veterans to Congress, and more are running.
Well, hats off to Prince Harry.

Who are you to call somone a chickenhawk?
Who the hell are you to call somone a chickenhawk? Have you ever served? I did 7 years active duty and recently joined the reserves at the ripe old age of 35 in the Construction Battalion (Seabee's) of the Navy. Let someone who served call out others..oh wait... patriots = not a democrat. It is your right to dissent, not imply others are cowards when you yourself have made the same choice not to serve.
Who are you to ask who are you to ask?
"oh wait... patriots = not a democrat. "
Really? Is that how it is there? If a fellow countryman disagrees with your view on defence, foreign policy or intervention, they can't be a patriot? A view that doesn't slot nicely into your narrow idea of what is 'right' is immediately dubbed as unpatriotic, and even more ridiculously, is assigned the label of 'Democrat'?
Do you really think that all the millions of people who vote for the other political party in the United States are unpatriotic, or that they don't love their country? Here, I live and work with people with political views ranging from Trotskyist to slightly right of Atilla The Hun, but I would never for a moment imagine any of them as 'unpatriotic'.
You can't win any sensible argument simply by calling people names or accusing them of not being something! Construct a valid argument instead of spouting vitriol and assigning labels. Not wanting your countrymen, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers to bleed and die in a desert thousands of miles from home for all the wrong reasons doesn't make anyone an anti-American or unpatriotic. Utter nonsense.
Perhaps they are in fact even more patriotic than you claim yourself to be? After all, they want to remove your servicepeople from harm's way, whereas it seems you would be quite happy to shout slogans and continue feeding Americans into the grinder. Patriotism? Gung-ho bullshit more like.
If, as you say, you served 7 years in the armed forces then I would say to you Sir, that you should know better than to trample people's opinions without offering a sustainable position - after all, didn't you give 7 years of your life to protect and defend, amongst other things, the right to free speech? Also my friend, it really isn't good form for a military man to go stomping around telling everyone what a hero he is for doing his bit - it's all slightly undignified don't you think?
No,I'm not gay simply because I disagree with you.
Surprisingly, I'm not a commie pinko nor a fascist thug either - I vote Conservative.
I served for in the British Armed Forces for 15 years - so get some time in.
"Silence,Thought,Strength."
PS: The author is spot on by the way, they're chickhawks. They have no honour. There - I served and I said it.
Thank you for your comment
First off, calling into question the patriotism of Democrats is a bad idea given that we are the ones who want to actually go after the people who attacked us. And the many DEMOCRATS in Congress who are veterans (far more than Republicans) might beg to differ.
My step father is a counter example as well. He served in WW II and Korea. Retired Lt. Col. (the youngest Lt. Col. at the time). Taught at West Point. And was a life long Democrat. Hated Nixon, Reagan, the first Bush. He is dead now, but I guarantee you his views of the current Bush would be, shall we say, colorful.
A chickenhawk is someone who bent over backwards to avoid service while eagerly supporting every chance, even as far as lying to get us into illegal wars, to send OTHER people to die in wars.
I did not serve. Until the invasion of Afghanistan, there was no war in my lifetime I supported. After 9/11 I DID consider service. Of course the military would have wanted to use me doing exactly what I am doing now: scientific research. At my age and with a Ph.D. they don't send you into combat.
Thank you for serving. But if you think I cede my right to call George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney chickenhawks because of their extreme measures an excuses to get out of service but their extreme willingness to send people like you into endless, poorly planned wars with no exit strategy, you are sadly mistake. I have that right and I will say it.
John McCain served and served honorably. I differ with him on almost every level, particularly his support of endless, poorly planned wars with no exit strategy. But he is NOT a chickenhawk. Nor, of course, was John Kerry. Bush is the worst of them all, having actually gone AWOL from the non-combat posting he got because his father pulled strings. He is the worst chickenhawk of them all.
True Honor
I am a proud American and I am proud of anyone willing to serve their country. It does not matter what you think about the war... what Prince Harry has been doing over in Afghanistan is truely honorable! He does not have to be there, however not only has he chosen, but fought for the chance to fight for his country. As far as I am concerned, the reporter that broke this story has jeopardised not only Harry but the brave men and women who fight along with him. It is disgusting and the international media should take the responsibilty to make sure that this traitor never again has the venue to cause such harm again!

That's old news...compare
That's old news...compare the current presidential election.
It's between a boy and a man. I bet you can guess who the boy is.
