Not only CAN it happen, it IS happening here: Anti-Semitic America

In America today, torture is considered acceptable. Detention without due process is considered acceptable. Republican politicians are calling America a "Christian Nation." Mainstream media talk show hosts are telling Jews to "move to Israel" if they don't consider America a Christian nation. In Indiana Republican politicians are telling Jews they don't matter because they only make up 2% of the population. In Seattle a man shoots up the Jewish Federation because he is "mad at Israel." In Delaware a town considers Jews and Muslims unimportant because they are a small minority and when Jews and Muslims complain about (un-Constitutional) Christian prayer in schools and government meetings they are forced to flee the town by threats of mob violence.

Forget Mel Gibson's drunken, anti-Semitic rants. Throughout America anti-Semitism is rampant. In fact, hate crimes against Jews, Muslims, homosexuals, Hispanics, etc. are rampant. Mix this new Culture of Intolerance, routinely fed and encouraged by the Republican Party and its media lapdogs, with the acceptance of torture and detention without due process and you get an America that is walking the path that Germany walked in the 1930's.

Yes, folks. It already has started to happen here. Is it the exact same form of intolerance? No. Will we go as far down that path as Germany did? I hope not. But NO ONE should be under any illusion that we are safe here.

I have been writing about the Delaware Pogrom for awhile now. But I do not want it to seem like the Delaware Pogrom is in any way isolated. Nor do I want it to seem like anti-Jewish violence is the only or even the main form of hate crime in America today. If you aren't a Christian white, America is becoming more dangerous for you. From the passive murder of poor blacks that happened in the wake of Katrina to the blatant anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim violence in America to the calls for terrorist actions against American citizens by Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly, America is following in the path of Nazi Germany, step by step. And, yes, the Republicans are leading the way.

No...I am NOT saying Republicans are Nazis. Nor am I saying Bush is the same as Hitler. I am saying that as a society we are making the same mistakes that Germany made that ALLOWED Hitler and the Nazis to take over and here we have our own forms of intolerance and violence that are becoming widespread and accepted within our culture. And many Republicans are ADVOCATING intolerance and violence.

A woman was killed and five others wounded in a shooting at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle building in downtown Seattle by a man who declared he was "angry with Israel." This happened LAST MONTH, after the Delaware Pogrom. This is NOT an anti-Israel action, but an anti-Semetic action.

In Indiana, a prominent politician told a group of Jews that their opinion on the recitation of Christian prayers at legislative sessions didn't matter because they only made up 2% of the population.

In Delaware, Jewish and Muslim families were insulted, humiliated, and threatened until they were forced to flee the town due to threatened violence by right wing Christian fanatics who were pushing Christian prayer in school.

Ann Coulter advocates bombing the NY Times building, attacking liberals with baseball bats, and the assassination of a Supreme Court Justice and a Congressman.

Bill O'Reilly also advocates intolerance and terrorism. He advocated bombing Coit Tower in San Francisco. He also told a Jewish caller to "go to Israel" if he felt uncomfortable with government displays of Christianity.

WAKE UP AMERICA! THIS IS NOT DEMOCRACY!

I wrote many Delaware politicians about the Delaware Pogrom. The response was silence by both Republican and Democratic politicians. Why can't our leaders look at this mob violence and intolerance and say, "I do not accept that?" Why does the Republican Party embrace Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly even as they intimidate Jews, advocate terrorism and encourage hatred? Why are Democrats silent in the face of Republican-led violence and hatred? Why do we allow the victims of Katrina now become victims again as casinos sweep up their ruined homes, leaving them with almost nothing?

And why do we accept torture and detention without due process in a nation that claims to be devoted to democracy?

This is no longer about right vs. left, liberal vs. conservative. This is now about opposing right wing extremists who use corruption, cronyism, intolerance and violence as tools to gain more money and power. This is now about protecting America against tyranny that is being built by the Republican Party and the mainstream media.

This is now about our survival, both as a democratic nation collectively, and individually our real, personal survival.

America is walking the path walked by the Germans in the 1930's. What are you going to do about it?

WRITE THE MEDIA and complain about their role in encouraging the culture of intolerance and violence. WRITE YOUR CONGRESS CRITTERS and demand that they condemn the Delaware Pogrom and the hate mongering of Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. In particular, write Republican Representative from Delaware, Michael Castle and demand that he condemns the Delaware Pogrom and opposes the combining of church and state in Delaware. WRITE THE ADL and ask them to take a public stand against the Delaware Pogrom and to demand that Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly be fired for advocating violence, terrorism and hatred.
