Protect the vote in Montana: Linda McCulloch for Secretary of State

Since 2000 most Americans have come to realize that they have no guarantee that their vote will count. We know pretty much for a fact that there have been at least 2 dubious elections in Florida, at least one in Ohio, one in Georgia and one in North Carolina. And this is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Florida's elections have become so bad that the Carter Center, which monitors elections all over the world, refused to monitor Florida's 2004 Presidential election because Florida did not meet the minimum requirement for a democratic election. Even Republicans are admitting probable election fraud in Ohio and Georgia and probably also Florida.

The Secretary of State Project is targeting states where election fraud has happened or seems likely and where the secretary of state is either doing nothing or seems actively involved in election fraud. They support honest, reform-minded candidates for secretary of state who take election fraud seriously. So far they have won in Ohio, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada and Iowa. Their winning candidate, in Ohio, Jennifer Brunner, has been winning awards for her reforms.

This year one of the states the Secretary of State Project is targeting is Montana.

In Montana, Democrat Linda McCulloch is trying to unseat ultra-conservative Brad Johnson. Johnson has been involved in an attempt by conservatives to rollback the state's Election Day Registration laws.

Here is an email from Linda McCulloch:

Recently the Montana Republican Party issued a legal challenge to the right of over 6,000 Montanans—who live in areas that generally support Democrats—to vote in the upcoming election based on a change of address. Brad Johnson was silent.

Montanans deserve leadership from their Secretary of State. They expect their elected officials to stand-up to obvious partisan manipulation of our election laws that jeopardize our right to vote. The Secretary of State has failed to defend federal and state election laws, as well as his own Administrative Rules that prohibit this challenge.

The Secretary of State's lack of attention to policies and procedures that affect Montana taxpayers and voters is a sad hallmark of his administration.

Montanans deserve better!

Linda served three terms in the Montana House of Representatives, serving on the Judiciary, Highways & Transportation, Local Government, Education and House Rules Committees, and interim Committee assignments included Juvenile Justice & Mental Health, Indian Affairs, and Education & Local Government. Linda was elected State Superintendent in November 2000. She passed Full-Time Kindergarten for Montana's children. She supported legislation to create an Honorary High School Diploma program for WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans that left school to serve our country. She obtained nearly $80 million in grants to support for services for Montana's schools. And she advocated for rural education programs as part of No Child Left Behind. She now wants to bring her expertise to voting issues.

America has one of the lowest voter participation rates in the free world. While Republicans are trying to make it harder for our young people to vote, Linda McCulloch is trying to ENCOURAGE voter participation. From her website:

It should be the fundamental goal of Montana's Secretary of State to make it easier, not more difficult for Montanans to exercise their right to vote...

To further the business of the Secretary of State’s office I will utilize citizen councils to develop more effective ways to do the business of the office. An Election Advisory Council will be appointed to make recommendations regarding more efficiency in the elections process.

"People say, 'She's so successful' and 'Look at her position as a black woman.' She is a black woman who grew up in Birmingham, Ala., and said that she never experienced a day of racism in her life," Lee tells the April issue of Stuff magazine.

"Condi, stop smoking that crack!"

"I know you love your Ferragamo shoes, but come on. While people were drowning in New Orleans, she was going up and down Madison Ave. buying Ferragamo shoes. Then she went to see 'Spamalot.'"
