Republicans shocked...SHOCKED...by Palin's pregnant teen daughter
John McCain's VP pick, corrupt Republican Sarah Palin, turns out to have a teenage daughter who is pregnant out of wedlock. And this has created quite a bit of consternation among republicans. Many righ wingers are condemning McCain and Palin over Palin's teen daughter's pregnancy. Of course McCain is already being attacked by Bush's own pastor for his immorality and poor character, so this is bound to further alienate McCain's base.
But I don't condemn Palin over her daughter's pregnancy per se. This is life. Studies show that more than 90% of Americans have sex before marriage, most starting while they are young. Palin's family is no different than most of our families and they are sticking together over this. Good for them!
But what does get me is the lack of preparation and the hypocrisy shown by this. McCain and Palin didn't even prepare their own party for this. Mere days after McCain announced Palin as his running mate and just before the start of the republican convention the news came out. Few republicans were prepared for it. Palin showed a lack of judgement in not providing her daughter with enough information about sex so that he daughter could take proper precautions, and both McCain and Palin showed poor judgement in not planning ahead for this revalation, not even warning their own party in advance. Poor planning is what we have had under Bush...we don't need more of it.
And then there is the hypocrisy. The right wing always yammering about immorality and criticizing the sex lives of Democrats, and yet we have McCain's own infidelities (which is part of what alienated Bush's pastor) and the teen pregnancy in Palin's family. If you are going to criticize others for their sexual behavior, you have to hold yourself to the same standards. McCain and Palin love to point the finger, but they are no different than anyone else. They talk about morality and criticize and whine about it, but they show no morality of their own. From McCain's infidelities and his involvement in the Savings and Loan scandal, to Palin's teen daughter, her ties to the extremely corrupt Alaska Republican Party, and the fact that she is under investigation by the FBI for abuse of power and you have nothing but another pair of republican hypocrites.
Finally, there is the fact that McCain and Palin have both opposed programs for pregnant teens, basically saying that if your family isn't rich like theirs, you are shit out of luck. They are elitist in the worst way, giving themselves absolution for every kind of immorality while condemning and punishing everyone else for any minor or imagined transgression.
McCain/Palin: nothing but more Bush hypocrisy, more Bush lack of planning and more Bush failure.

"Palin showed a lack of judgment in not providing her daughter with enough information. . ." and I agree, but at least that was at home. What about what she's trying to do in [public, using her public office and "actual responsibilities" to the whole community? I'm a journalism graduate and former librarian myself, so the First Amendment is as sacred to me as anything gets. When I saw the NYT story about Palin trying to fire her town's librarian for not being willing to ban any books Palin might find objectionable, I saw much more than one parent's hypocrisy. I saw Savonarola!
Palin's "Actual Responsibilities" as Madame Mayor --
. . . We are both women, both moms with public sector executive experience and strong policy views, but also Sarah Palin and I both are public university journalism graduates -- although apparently only one of us got an actual education in journalism and thinks of it as an actual responsibility. And only one of us seems to understand the First Amendment as part of America's "actual responsibilities" -- even in tucked-away small towns where one well-armed, well-dressed pitbull in lipstick might believe herself picked by God, to take over and control everybody's story.
For those who may have seen the presidential debate commission's announcement of moderators today, did you notice that the vice-presidential debate will be October 2?
That is smack in the middle of BANNED BOOKS WEEK! So it presents an ideal opportunity to illuminate this aspect of Palin's "actual" governing experience. Any help Culture Kitchen can give me in agitating for Gwen Ifill to ask Palin (and Biden of course) one reality-based question that night, about journalism and libraries as essential in the first amendment's vital importance to COUNTRY FIRST, would be much appreciated!
Is this a good time to mention BANNED BOOKS WEEK is almost upon us again? Will McCain-Palin be ready? I’m picturing a series of town meetings to explain how they know best for all of us, and we should just trust they’ll tell us whatever they feel we can be trusted with, when the time is right (obviously no questions would be allowed):

[EDITOR'S NOTE: series of unsupported smears deleted. Sorry Tex Guy...I don't mind your voice of opposition around here, but keep it based at least somewhat in facts, not vague, mostly discredited smears. And let's face facts, dude. Republican corruption FAR outweighs Democratic corruption when you compare investigations, indictments and convictions. And, as I link in the diary, Alaska republicans are about as corrupt as you can get. You can't escape that. Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky Repubs used to be the top corruption slots, but as more has come out on the scandals among Alaska Republicans and as corrupt Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky repubs get voted out, Alaksa has taken the lead.]
