Are you scared enough yet?

Excuse me for writing so frankly. I can’t think of any other way of saying what is on my mind. So for the casual reader of this little (rant, rationale or reason?) piece of mind, please bear with me if I come off as sexist.
I’m disappointed in the e-community, who have spent years and untold hours each day, and are now scared to come out and say what they really think about impeachment. I read long, carefully constructed arguments for impeachment. And I also read comments which say something like “the country isn’t ready for it at this time.” But where do you, dear commenter, stand? What do you think? Don’t give me poll numbers. Don’t give me John Conyers. Or Nancy Pelosi. Or even the latest on your favorite blogsite. Give me your honest opinion.
I’m a woman. I’m a very senior woman. I know how things have changed over the decades. In my youth, it was frustrating to know that there were many restrictions on what I could and could not do just because I was a girl. But you know what! I always thought of myself as a human being. And early on I realized that human beings can attain their goals if they are not afraid. So I chuckled to myself when someone told me I couldn’t go here or there, because it wasn’t done. Sure, I had to accept the rules that girls--and we tended to be girls until we were married which would liberate us because some big strong man would be there to protect us--had to be locked into the dorm at ten with nary a male in the building. Of course, we were let out on Saturday and Friday nights for dates. How else would we ever catch a big strong protector!
It’s all in the mindset, folks. Don’t be afraid. And now I turn to impeachment, which is where I turn every day. I think you will get further in promoting impeachment by listening to us women. We know that the WASP (whoops, that’s the old Viet Nam era phrase)is stacked against us. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, is what it meant. Today we have more words to hurl at the establishment, many of which have only four letters and others which end in “nik,” That seems to be a short way of saying the person is “not one of us.” Like, peacenik or blognik.
So maybe that is the reason I don’t see a lot of big strong men coming out for impeachment. I assume you are strong fellows because you use strong words against the Bush administration for what it has done to the Constitution. I commiserate, because I am old, female, “progressive,” and also stubborn. No one should set back the clock for all the young girls. I admire their casual way of dressing and their demands to work, have a family, and take part in politics.
My plea to men is to stand up for what you believe in. Don‘t cop out by worrying whether it will cost you a raise, a place of honor at the club, or some blog putdown. My plea to women is to do it for yourself. Don’t lose the human rights you have. My plea to all--regardless of party, religion, country of origin, gender, sexual orientation, or economic status--is to be red-blooded Americans who want to keep their freedom.
