Carnival of the feminists

[via Bitch | Lab : Call for Carnival Submissions]

You have until the 20th to submit your entries for the Carnival. Suggested themes are :

1. The personal is political
2. The virtues of being mouthy
3. Sex positivity

I wonder though, how they will be managing multiple entries from a group blog like ours.

BTW : I had offered to Melinda Casino of SourDuck to use our calendar as one of the places where the carnival could be announced. She never got back to me. Now she*** Melinda Casino is complaining about her ranking is going to slide in Technorati even after getting linklove and traffic out of the carnivals. Well, this is the most perfect time to revisit my post on how to make good blog carnivals better.

Feminist bloggers need to start thinking more tactically. When working on the statement against John Roberts, Morgaine of The Goddess bitch-slapped me with a fantastic scolding : You sometimes cannot choose your allies. This was when we were mired on some thing or another about the document. I have to tell you, it was the best piece of political wisdom anybody has slapped me with in the 4+ years I have been blogging and more than 20 years I have of political activism.

Tell Morgaine, I luvssss her for it.

I know I am not popular among a lot of the women in the present so-called feminist blogosphere. Many can't seem to make heads or tails of me because I don't speak their feminist language. To me that's the point. I am not schooled in American feminism or canons about feminist theories. Well, I am, but I know scholarly rigor and I would never call myself a feminist scholar.

For good or bad, I am the face of the feminist blogosphere in a lot of political and technology conferences and events. For good or bad, I am one of the leaders. Women in the feminist blogosphere ought to at least engage in a discussion about what needs to be done in order to organize our efforts better.

And I say "so-called" because there is not one feminist blogosphere but several (at my last count, there's about 5 main cross-sections or nodes) and each has it's own flavor of feminism. Yes, I have been mapping the feminist blogosphere because I am gearing to write and publish about it.

Going back to the point about strategic alliances : Melinda's plight wouldn't even be if we were networking better. Period. End of story.

So going back to the point of this post : If anybody here in the community would like to take on keeping track of all these carnivals by adding them to our calendar, please please pretty please, go ahead and make our day.

Hell, if you want to take on being an Events Editor, talk to me and you will be added to our list of editors (which, btw, will be coming up soon with our revamped masthead and About page).

More later.

Brazil is kicking Australia's ass and that's a priority of the highest order.

[ I effed up yesterday on this one. I got Melinda mixed up with Natalie Bennett. Apologies to both of them; although it explains my popularity ... heh. I'll keep asking for help on getting the calendar up to date until I find a committed volunteer.]

Can't find it

"BTW : I had offered to Melinda Casino of SourDuck to use our calendar as one of the places where the carnival could be announced. She never got back to me."

I cannot find the email in either of my Google Gmail archives – re-send...?

I would also suggest emailing the calendar idea to Natalie Bennett, the organizer of the Carnival of Feminists, if you haven't already done so.

I apologize for not getting back to you if I did receive the email; I'm pretty bad at responding to emails – or life gets in the way.

Very interested in this feminist post you're hinting at...

Words to live by

"I am tolerant of all creeds. Yet if any sect suffered itself to be used for political objects I would meet it by political opposition. In my view church and state should be separate, not only in form, but fact. Religion and politics should not be mingled."

— -- Millard Fillmore, address during 1856 Presidential election, from Albert J. Menendez and Edd Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom
