Dick Cheney
Someone inside the GOP really hates them
The calendar maker of the GOP has got to be rounded up and ... ahem ... dealt with. He or she must have missed the memo that no one at the GOP wants the party to be associated with George Bush.
Yet here we are with a calendar in which his face appears 23 times, five of those with his wife and her Joker lips. Condoleezza, Alberto and Karl are conspicuously absent.
The most interesting inclusion, and proof that the calendar maker hates the GOP, is Dick Cheney. The Lord of Darkness makes an appearance in October, the month known for the cryptopagan American celebration of spooks, goblins and demons.
Now that is snark.
The photograph is hilarious and creepy at the same time. Who knew Dick Cheney's face --not him-- had the ability to smile. What is he smiling about or at, we don't know. It can't be the heavens --we know puppies died in the making of that smirk.
A smirk that is hilarious because ... I don't know why but this Dick Cheney kind of reminds me of Bill Gates, the Prince of Darkness. The L. O. D. is looking a little geeky, in a Silicon Valley meets Redmond sort of way.
Apologies to all the hackers hurt in the making of that comparison. I do think it's what makes that picture creepily funny.
H/T to Matt Ortega.

I wish I knew who took this photograph of the Belligerent Four. This is not just a photo. It is a metaphor for the Bush Administration.

Impeach Cheney
Just yesterday I wrote on Daily Gotham about my new Congressional Rep, Yvette Clarke, becoming the fifth Congress Critter to officially call for impeachment of Dick Cheney. Clarke has signed on to Dennis Kucinich's bill, HR 333, which are articles of impeachment against Cheney. For the full text of HR 333, go here.
Back in February I began advocating the impeachment of George Bush based on the exact articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon, an arguement widely discussed by former Congresswoman Liz Holtzman, who was part of the House committee that DID impeach Nixon. If anyone can be said to be an expert on impeaching a president, Liz is one of them.
George W. Bush pesonally authorized about 45 wiretaps without any court approval. He has also publically admitted that he has done this.
This is precisely what is covered in Article 2 of the articles of impeachment of Richard Nixon adopted by a bipartisan vote in Congress. Bush is guilty of a crime that was part of the Nixon impeachment. No new case has to be built from scratch, although Liz Holtzman ALSO argues for several more articles of impeachment built around several other areas where Bush has violated the law and/or his oath as President. But the framework for impeachment based on illegal wiretapping already exists from 1974.

Vic Gold is my kind of Republican!

For all the Rove-built facade of his being a 'strong' chief executive, George W. Bush has been, by comparison to even hapless Jimmy Carter, the weakest, most out of touch president in modern times.
Think Dan Quayle in cowboy boots.

Scooter Libby not guilty! Cheney still at-large!
Well ... ok ... Libby was found not-guilty on account of making false statements to the FBI; but he was convicted on 4 others and stands to be in jail for up to 30 years :
Jury convicts Libby on four charges - Politics - MSNBC.com:
Libby faced two counts of perjury, two counts of lying to the FBI and one count of obstruction of justice. Prosecutors said he discussed Plame's name with reporters and, fearing prosecution, made up a story to make those discussions seem innocuous.
Libby's defense team said he learned about Plame from Cheney, forgot about it, then learned it again a month later from newsman Tim Russert of NBC’s “Meet the Pressâ€. Anything he told reporters about Plame, Libby said, was just chatter and rumors, not official government information.
Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald said that was a lie. But Libby's defense team had argued that it would be unfair to convict Libby in a case where so many witnesses changed their stories or had memory problems.
“We think we made an appropriate decision, and we have no regrets,†Fitzgerald told reporters after the verdict was announced.
Dick Cheney though, is still at-large; alebit with a blood clot in his leg waiting to explode.

Another Republican Found Guilty by a Jury
Looks like yet another in a long line of Halliburton Republicans is guilty of crimes. Scooter Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, has been found guilty by a jury. From Salon.com:
Eleven jurors -- the 12th was dismissed after being exposed to press reports about the case -- found Libby guilty of 1) obstructing justice by lying to the grand jury about how he learned and whom he told about Plame; 2) making a false statement by lying to the FBI about a conversation he said he had about Plame with NBC's Tim Russert; 3) committing perjury by lying to the grand jury about his conversation with Russert; and 4) committing perjury by lying about his conversation with Cooper and other reporters.
What was left off that list of charges was treason. Libby was part of a conspiracy that revealed the identity of a covert agent who was involved in the War against terrorism. Revealing that identity compromised our defense against terrorism and constitutes treason. That is the real charge that should have been leveled against Libby.
Now, what was Dick Cheney's role in all of this? Was his underling acting alone or under direction? Is Dick as guilty of treason as Libby? I think that deserves some investigation, don't you? Maybe Congress wants to look into it?

Anybody following the Scooter Libby trial?

Snippet of trial documents found at FindLaw.com
I have never been so disinterested in a "big news trial" as I am with the Scooter Libby trial. I'm sorry but, as corrupt as the man is, he is taking the fall for Dick Cheny and Karl Rove. I want to see Dick Cheney's ass on that defendant's seat, not a man with the nickname of a popular children's vehicle.
So, enlighten me. What's hot and what's not about the Libby trial?

Gerald Ford : The Godfather of Neo-Cons

Today is a national day of mourning to commemorate Gerald Ford's passing.
In refreshing my memory about Gerald Ford's legacy, I reckoned what he in common with James Brown : They're both godfathers of two American cultural movements.
James Brown, the godfather of soul, funk and the African American pop culture revolution.
Gerald Ford, the godfather of soulless compassionate conservatism.
It's so clear to me now. Ford, called healer of the nation was the poster child for compassionate conservatism.
Yet, as Timothy Noah explains in Why Pardoning Nixon Was Wrong, Ford's blanket pardon of Nixon opened the doors for not only a "teflon president" with Ronald Reagan; but it created the unaccountable monster that is George W. Bush.
Gerald Ford should go down in history as the godfather of the GOP's soulless compassionate conservatism and neo-con corruption.
