I agree with Josh on Palin but on the crazy talk

sarahpalin_not_resigning.jpeg

From Beware Post-Dated Resignations? :: TPM:

Palin did this totally out of the blue. But given the thundering derision that has greeted her decision and exposure as a quitter of gargantuan proportions, is it possible she'll reconsider? After all, if she's resigning, why doesn't she just resign? Why wait until the end of July?

Again, I don't think it's likely. And I can't fathom a scenario in which it was planned all along. But remember we're dealing with a deeply erratic and probably mentally unstable person who does lots of completely whacked things at the drop of a hat.

Even though I concur with Josh about the possibility of Palin retracting her intentions to resign, I have a serious problem with anybody, with the kind of media influence he has, writing about her alleged mental health issues.

It's not like he's not said about other politicians. He's said the same thing about Mark Sanford. I just honestly, don't feel comfortable when people in big media (or wanna big media people) start speculating about the mental health of their subjects.

Just. Not. Cool.

A volcano erupts over the weekend. In Alaska. It's name? Mt. Redoubt

Bobby Jindal became uber-notorious last month when, as the GOPs official respondent to PBO's address to Congress, he stated that one of the signs of pork in the Stimulus Bill passed last month was money for "something called "volcano monitoring".

As if it weren't bad enough that he, as the spokesman for the GOP said something so ridiculous like that, the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin played the one-upmanship game by announcing she was rejecting any and all stimulus funding --money that including funds for expanded "volcano monitoring" as well as that oh-so-personal issue of hers, "special education" programs.

Well, mother nature really doesn't care about what extremist Republicans have to say. This from Alaska Volcano Observatory - Redoubt - Activity Page:

Beginning Sunday March 22, 2009) at approximately 22:38 AKDT, Redoubt Volcano produced a series of five explosive eruptions that each lasted from four to thirty minutes. The last one ended at 5:00 AM AKDT this morning (March 23). National Weather Service radar, pilot reports, and AVO analysis of satellite imagery suggest that these events produced ash clouds that reached 60,000 ft above sea level (asl), with the bulk of the ash volume between 25 - 30,000 ft asl. Traces of ash fall have been reported in Skwentna, Talkeetna, Wasilla, and Trapper Creek.

So what did Bobby Jindal have to say? Nothing.

Culture Kitchen's Twenty-One State Endorsement Roundup

Well, I think 21 states is about my limit. Was considering trying to put together West Virginia and Oklahoma pages, but I think the following are all I can do before election day rolls over us. Look for your state. I cover whatever caught my attention from school board and port authority up to Governor and Senate races. It is compiled from Progressive Majority, INDN List, Daily Kos efforts and my own research. The only controversial one I endorsed was in Washington State, and you can see the contrary comment in that section (from a Republican with a chip on his shoulder, but still with a valid point). So here they are, the 2008 Culture Kitchen Twenty-One State Endorsement Roundup:

NORTH CAROLINA ENDORSEMENTS

MINNESOTA ENDORSEMENTS

ALASKA ENDORSEMENTS

MONTANA ENDORSEMENTS

OREGON ENDORSEMENTS

COLORADO ENDORSEMENTS

WYOMING ENDORSEMENTS

VIRGINIA ENDORSEMENTS

NEVADA ENDORSEMENTS

OHIO ENDORSEMENTS

IOWA ENDORSEMENTS

PENNSYLVANIA ENDORSEMENTS

WISCONSIN ENDORSEMENTS

MICHIGAN ENDORSEMENTS

WASHINGTON STATE ENDORSEMENTS

MISSOURI ENDORSEMENTS

NEW JERSEY ENDORSEMENTS

CALIFORNIA ENDORSEMENTS

ILLINOIS ENDORSEMENTS

ARIZONA ENDORSEMENTS

TEXAS ENDORSEMENTS

Please forgive me if I skipped your state or skipped candidates in your state. I am just one person!

Breaking News: Ted Stevens Guilty!

CNN Breaking news (no details):

A jury has found Sen. Ted Stevens guilty on all seven counts of making false statements on Senate disclosure forms.

A sitting Republican Senator running for re-election convicted of lying his ass off about a corruption investigation.

Let me remind you that Ted Stevens is about to get that lying ass kicked by Mark Begich in November. Here is my Alaska Endorsement Page, for those who missed it.

And an earlier rundown on Ted Stevens corruption can be found here.

For our Alaska Readers: an election day guide

Alaska is my second state to focus on. Only have a couple of specific recommendations here.

ALASKA SENATE

Alaska has a Senate fight that Dems have a good chance of winning. Let me introduce you to Mark Begich, who is running for Senate against probably the most corrupt politician in America today, Ted Stevens. In fact, Ted Stevens has just been found GUILTY on seven counts of lying to an investigation into his corruption.

Mark Begich, is the extremely popular mayor of Alaska's largest city, which under his administration is entering its 20th consecutive year of economic growth, has enjoyed a record building boom and is financially sound due to strong fiscal management. Begich inherited a $33 million budget gap. Under Mayor Begich, Anchorage's bond ratings have improved to among the top 5 percent in the country, some 9,200 new jobs have been created, the city enjoyed the second highest construction value in city history and property taxes dropped for the majority of Anchorage property owners between 2006-07. Seems we need some of his economic acumen in the Senate!

Problem Palin Implicated in Troopergate

The Alaska Republican Party is quite probably the most corrupt state party around today, though I will say that it has competition from the Missouri, Kentucky and Ohio Republican parties. From the VECO scandal to Troopergate, almost the entire Alaska Republican Party is under investigation, indicted or, for some State level Republicans, in jail. One of the Republican Senators and Alaska's House Rep are part of this culture of corruption.

Now it seems to be Sarah Palin's turn.

When I was first told that John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his VP, my response was "is he crazy?" To pick someone who is ACTIVELY under investigation and who is a member of the most corrupt state party in the country seemed insane given the fact that Republican corruption was the number one issue in 2006...and one that led to a major Democratic victory. For McCain, himself linked to the old Savings and Loan scandal, to pick someone actively under investigation seemed to be among the dumbest things he could have done.

Now is when it will start to hurt him, as the Troopergate investigation goes into full swing.

QUOTES

To the Chinese, freedom is a threat. To the right wingers, criticism of the Catholic Church was a threat. To some folks in Missouri, the fact that I continually bring up issues related to Johnson's shut-ins is a threat. Exactly how do we define a level of 'threat' in this new Gestapo brave new world? Is it in the eye of the beholder?
